Had to stop by and restock the fridge...!

All that for the price of about 6-8 cans of Masthead at a release...

    GOGGLE!

Wonder if anyone here will win the contest to try Strange Magic a day early next week...

Goggle is tasting incredible... So happy to have a fresh, local Hefe available now in cans/bottles. I will totally live on this stuff this summer!

From the Strange Magic debut today, some notes:

    6.5% ABV
    60ish IBU
New Water Profile (softer, less aggressive)
    West Coast Style
Mix of Pellet, Cyro and Whole Flower Hops
Did not detail varieties, but much like their other beers (Likely Citra, Mosaic, CTZ, Simcoe, etc...)

And still doing some little tweaks before it's canned... But supposedly it's really close to where they want it. Will be in 6-pack cans.

I will never understand the "taps at 5pm" asshattery; it will be on for weeks.

So annoying... Before, the excuse was that they didn't want to flood the old business park with cars/people before the other businesses cleared out... Made sense, I guess. But the new location has no excuse. Would have stopped at lunch and got a crowler and had a draft of it as well, but due to the 5pm thing they like to do for whatever stupid reason, skipped on it. Why not have it ready to go when you open for the day? There is NO point to waiting until this elusive 5pm.

I don't understand the reasoning behind the 5 PM tap, but I'll still be heading there shortly :stuck_out_tongue:

    Two words: shit management.

Matt Cole is Fat Head's, and without him it's an average brewpub or a bad restaurant

While I agree this 5:00 decision is pretty silly, most of the food at Fat Head’s is great IMO and Chris and Zoscak are both fantastic brewers. Don’t forget a ton of other local talent has come out of FH too. Yeah, Matt is the man but this hot take is just too much - you don’t have to be a curmudgeon every day :grimacing:

The Kingmaker is calling me a crumudgeon? Good one. My attitude on beer is super casual and it's not something that worries me much. All opinions are my true thought, based on little emotion

I'm a Fat Head's honk and all hose guys were trained by Matt; not a small thing.

Fat Head's food is average, at best. If I stopped drinking, I would never go there

Edit: Mike Z is legit and a good guy. Hope he finds his way to Middleburg

Just stopped by the brewery to check out Strange Magic… I must say, it’s a fantastic start. I know in the live facebook release, Matt had commented they want a little more bitterness in there along with some tweaks to the hop bill. This thing is a crusher. Fantastic nose, tropical/fruity and light on the palate. With a hair more bitterness, I think it will really pop. Can’t wait to see how the production batch will be when it comes around in June or whatever.

Overall, fits in well with the other IPA’s in the lineup… Less of the dank, resinous bitter and more of the softer, more approachable tropical type notes. I think it’s really well done. I will love a mix of this and Head Hunter and/or JuJu in my fridge!

On a side note, I feel the food took a hit even from the old taphouse IMO. I've eaten there a few a times and aside from the pizza, have been unimpressed. I miss the no-frills menu from the taphouse, the food quality was better for sure... Even with that small rigged up kitchen they had!

It's consistantly the best beer in Ohio, but I have never been a fan of the food. Their substituting rules are weird, too

It might be a while before I can try the new beer, but I look forwatd to imbibing plenty at some juncture

Aside from the opening month, I felt the food at Canton took a steep nosedive as well. The menu didn't change, but what they served was really top notch out the gate, then kind of lackluster shortly after: more bun than filling, chips no longer crispy, uninspired specials and poor understanding passed down to server staff of them. The chips thing is the most painful, considering those are my favorite aspect about eating food at any FH location.

Never had an issue with the food at the saloon but I also avoid it like the plague due to how busy it always is, so it's been a year or more since my last stop.

Well one example, for me at least, is the BBQ Nachos. At the old taproom, those nachos were always piled well and layered with toppings and BBQ sauce or whatever. Always solid.

The new facility, we have tried those twice. They basically pile on the chips and dump a few toppings on top. When we asked for more BBQ sauce (as we basically were left with nothing but dry chips half way through) they asked which sauce out of the three we wanted… I asked if we could do two and was denied. We could only have one. Like, seriously? We then got our little plastic cup filled with BBQ sauce and even our server had commented that the ‘rules’ are wack. At the taphouse, you had a nice carrier of sauces and such to use at your leisure and at this new location they treat sauce like it’s some huge commodity. So weird.

As I said prior, the pizza was good and is the only thing I’d get there now. Headwhiches are too bread heavy and dry, brisket was shockingly bland (I’m a BBQ snob, so naturally I’m super critical… Got a 14lb brisket going on the smoker tonight!), the wings were just OK. Nothing has made me go “now that’s good!”. Time to replace the kitchen manager or whoever is in control of that ship… Speaking with someone who has been there for many years, they even admitted the food quality has dropped a lot since the taphouse due to poor decisions and leadership in that regard.

The food is fine if you need something to soak up the beer, but I don’t exactly recommend the food there to people.

But hey, at least the beer is still top notch!

I recently had the dry rub wings there, and thought they were amazing. However I agree, the rest of the stuff we got was just okay.
