    Hey NewBieS!
I hope everybody is having a good weekend so far. It has been pretty wet here all week but today has been pretty nice so I am looking forward to being able to bike and not having to buy a metro pass starting this next week. After being worthless all winter and with the weather getting nicer, I am ready for everything, except for people that ride like idiots and/or maniacs. Oh well, gotta have something to drive me to drinkin' since my bike is far from being a hot rod Lincoln.
Other than that, I'm just hanging out here this evening with a new non-local beer from Kettlehead thanks to an excellent-as-always trade with a solid BA. This is Nova, a double IPA.
It pours cloudy yellow with a skiff of soapy white head that totally disappears. Little retention; little lacing. The aroma is green, weedy, limey bitterness with a little sweeter citrus. The flavor is sweeter with oranges, pithy hops and a touch of very light malt. It is a touch chalky-feeling with medium carbonation and a lingering hoppy tingle to the finish. All told, this is a drinkable, tasty beer. It is fruity and bitter without either totally dominating. I'd happily have it again.

    Santé!

Very nice Gose. Not head retention/minimal lacing. Flavors of big juicy/sour/tart/tangy pineapples, fruit skin, lemon, lime, orange, grapefruit, peach, pear, melon, apricot, red/green apple, white grape/wine, sea salt, hay, straw, and grass; with some wheat, cracker, white bready malts; light musty/lacto funk, coriander, peppercorn, and yeast earthiness. Similar/muted aromas. Light-moderate lactic tart/sourness, fruit tang, and light spiciness on the finish. Light carbonation and body; lactic acid, fruit tang, and light grainy wheat, salinity in the mouthfeel. Moderate increasing acidic/tangy dryness; mild increasing pucker factor, but not overwhelming. Zero warming 4%. Well balanced juicy pineapples and Lacto complexity; with a decent pale/wheat malt backbone. Zero residual sweetness with lactic dryness. Carbonation would have been great to have, and make it smoother; but it was still drinkable. 3.8

New Beer Sunday: English Pale Ale

Evenin’ NBSers with a heads up for fans of Fuggles.

This evening’s new beer is the Wells Bombardier Glorious English.

My review, mostly finished, can be found here:

    https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/664/206340/?ba=drtth#review

The aromas/flavors have some peppery spiciness and some dark fruit or raisin. There’s some nice full dark bready richness and sweetness that is backed up by some light earthy bitterness that joins the light spiciness in creating a slowly fading ending. On the whole a drinkable, enjoyable beer that I’ll pleased to have again sometime.

To go with this evening’s beer, the music on the player this evening is some Gilbert and Sullivan

    Cheers, all!

#2, how I’ve never enjoyed this beer until today (probably 7 years or so after I enjoyed 8 and 10) is beyond me. I’m flummoxed - but I do get to break out the Westie XII glassware, so I have that going for me.

An aggressive pour reveals a brown beer that’s cloudy to the style and props up a light tan head that sizzles and evaporates quickly. The nose is packed with toffee, vanilla, and stone fruit aromas. I am now officially salivating.

The first flavor on the taste is a tangy dark cherry flavor, courtesy of the Belgian yeast. This flavor is a perfect accompaniment to the toffee, vanilla, and stone fruit flavors. This is a world-class Dubbel that is readily available, affordable, and truly a pleasure to drink.

Picked this one up this week from @JBowenGeorgia. Had never had anything from Creature Comforts prior to this week, and this was the better beer of the two that I have had so far.

    Creature Comforts Duende

A: Beer pours a yellowish orange color from the can that is typical with many of the style. Two fingers of head after a fairly typical pour. Small amount of head remained while drinking as well as some lacing on the sides of the glass.

S: The beer's aroma reminds me of a mango initially and predominantly. The overall smell of the beer is very reminiscent of tropical fruits. Along with mango notes there also seems to pineapple smell. Nice fruity notes all around.

T: The taste seems to follow the nose very closely. Getting a lot of the same sweet fruit flavors that I initially smelled. The beer also has a touch of dank pine taste that went unnoticed from the aroma. Overall, there seems to be a touch more going on with the actual taste than the nose in a positive way.

M: Mouthfeel on this is extremely full for the style. Not much in the way of a noticeable alcohol presence. The hop profile dominates both the nose and taste of this beer. Very smooth and easy drinker.

O: The taste of the beer is the high point here. There is just enough dank piney flavors at the back end to make the beer taste like straight juice. Mouthfeel is a nice plus here too; nice and full bodied beer. Nice example of the style and that slight earthy hint puts it over nicely.

Maybe there's something I'm unaware of, but the name and label of that beer should inspire a cease and desist from a certain well-known brewery.

Wow haven’t seen that in years, i was in Myrtle Beach jonesing for an Ipa, and bought a six. It was fruity and nicely bitter, if it’s fresh it’s a buy.

    500 ml. bottle.
Moderate to vigorous pour yields a 1/2 inch off white head over a slightly hazy golden body with some lacing. Nose of not much; faint malt, faint hops, faint biscuit/bread, and not much else. Taste isn't any better, it's actually worse. There's just really nothing going on here at all. Okay feel, and overall, I have no idea how old this is, as I found it in the walk-in cooler at work. I would not recommend. Cheers!

There was a thread dedicated to that video. Garrett Oliver does an outstanding job of presenting to camera and the video is put together very well. I think the answers to their "which is cheaper" questions are pretty clear just based on bottles/cans in all but one of the cases. The entire exercise also has very limited applicability in the real and wider world... but it's still a great video and a joy to watch. (just going off of memory here... I didn't re-watch it)

Another from @The-Adjunct-Hippie. Awesome IPA. Fantastic rocky head retention/thick foamy lacing. Aromas and flavors of big tangerine, red grapefruit, lemon, peach, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, honeydew melon, berries, citrus peel/rind, wood, peppercorn, and pine hops; with moderate honey, cracker, toasted biscuit, light caramel malts; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, woody, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation and body; balanced creamy/bready/grainy malts, sticky hops, and some resins/rinds in the mouthfeel. Light-moderate increasing resin dryness; no hop astringency. Very smooth, not overly aggressive, minimal warming 7.5%. Fantastic Centennial, Simcoe, Citra profile. Extremely juicy, vibrant, and fairly dank/earthy hops; with a great balanced bready malt backbone. Mild residual sweetness with lingering resin dryness. Delicious classic old school West coast style. Loved it. 4.13

Thanks for the background. I'm really glad to have tried it as it is only my second beer tick from Montana. It's a very nice Wee Heavy. Not a 5 to me but still really good!

In most cases, I agree: the bottle/can gave away which is more expensive. Not a guarantee in certain instances, but a Russian River cork-and-caged sour is obviously going to be more expensive per ounce than a 12 ounce can of a fruited "sour." (If it wasn't Russian River, than Crooked Stave or Lost Abbey aren't exactly selling "cheap" beer, so the point stands.)

His presentation, though, is outstanding, and the comments really show that - a lot of non-beer drinkers found it fascinating and informative. I wish he'd revealed which beers were which.

    Hello New Beer Sunday!!!

I'll first address the issue that our great starter addressed. I have a policy here not to discuss religion or politics here, and this issue falls into both camps, so I'll not say my opinions here.

All I'll say about this: is to think and study the pros and cons, to get a second opinion, and make up your mind that way.

Now off to the new beer, but a detour to yesterday, that fits into said beer.

Yesterday I was attending the annual family cemetery board meeting in Esseg, MN. Esseg is a small town half way between New Ulm and Sleepy Eye. On the way to the meeting I drove by the Schell's Starkeller taproom. They were having their Funk Junction party going on. I had to go to work after the meeting, so I couldn't go, which was annoying. Oh, well.

Now how does this fit into my beer. Well, I found this beauty at the Liquor Depot in New Ulm:

    Funk Junction Peach 2018

Nice funky and wild. This is a damn refreshing beer.

    Review:

Pours a murky, funky orange color. No clarity at all. 1 finger white head, but the retention isn't good. Nice carbonation bubbles rising in the glass.
The nose is a nice funky peach aroma. Nice and somewhat of a wild flavor.
Taste - Peach. A wild funky peach flavor. The peach is all throughout the flavor. Slightly tart.
Body is decent. Nice mouthfeel from the tartness, and carbonation.
Nice wild tart funky peach beer. Damn tasty.

I may be having another beer after this, we'll see how this one goes down and sits.
