Visiting Portland in a few weeks, thanks for the info on Tin Bucket! Any idea how much the Broken Trucks cost on site?

30-40, depending on the batch. They had 3 and 4 available.

    Thanks for the replies
    Should clarify a couple things-
I’m not yet present. Going first week of May 2019.
Likely will not have a rental vehicle, but totally open to rideshare, scooters, trams, metro, lightrail, amtrak, gondola, etc.
When I said Oakshire taproom I was thinking for the planned location. I misread and thought it was already opening when the article was from in January. Fingers crosst.

For the river I was thinking a deck overlooking the Columbia. I guess a good bar would do equally fine.

Well then... Hard to beat Salty's on the Columbia. Food there isn't half bad either.

Assuming you’re talking about Hood River rather than Portland, I’d also suggest Ferment Brewing just down the block from pFriem. The second floor space affords a better view, though that section of the river isn’t as breathtaking as other close by vantages. The few Ferment beers I’ve had have been fine, but pFriem is one of the best in the world IMO, so it’s hard to suggest going somewhere other than pFriem when in town.

Got 1 night coming up in less than 2 weeks for work. Any suggestions for the Lake Oswego area?

I live in the area and can give you some tips. LO encompasses a pretty sizeable area. Whereabouts in LO are you going to be staying.

Will you have access to a car?

Right off of I5 and Kruse Way, and yes I will have a car.

    So that makes a difference.

From where you'll be staying, I would recommend John's Market and the IBU Public House on SW Beaverton Hillsdale hiway. John's Market has a killer bottle and can selection (the largest selection in PDX in fact), though there can be freshness issues at times. The deli section also has around 9 different craft/import selections (one cider as well typically), and quality is usually pretty good (they have an online taplist, but as it hasn't been updated in months, it's pretty much worthless). There's also no corkage/cappage fee if you want to enjoy a bottle or can of something from the store side (they have a huge cold box selection). IBU is a bit farther away from where you'll be staying, but is still a pretty short drive. You can probably get to John's from your hotel in 5 or 10 minutes, whereas a drive to IBU will take you around 10 or 15 minutes.

Places that are also worth considering, but are a bit farther away, include NW Growlers over in MacAdam and Arch Bridge over in Oregon City. Both places have a pretty good taplist (and their online list is up to date - as is the IBU PH), and Arch Bridge has an above average bottle list (with usually a number of de Garde options if that interests you). However, it will likely take you a good 15 minutes or so to get to NW growlers, and close to half an hour to get to Arch Bridge.

In downtown LO, there's also Stickman's brewery/brewpub. I've never been greatly impressed by their beer or food, but it's in a nice location (right on the water). Unfortunately, it's a popular destination for a lot of folks in LO, and so it can get crowded at times and parking can be very difficult (I live 10 minutes away and never go there).

You indicated you're only going to be in town for one night, so that should be enough variety for you. :sunglasses:

And should you need a snack, while you're out and about, go here:

    https://pokpokrestaurants.com/

The SW Barbur Blvd spot is just a couple of minutes away from John's (right across the street from the Safeway), and the wings here are great. Recommend you order them to go, as there's not much of a dining area at this particular location.

Hop n Cork and Three Mermaids aren't far and just off I-5, check their taplists to see if anything looks good.

Skip IBU, at least for any kind of dining. I'm done with them after my last experience, they've never been very fast or attentive but the last time I went was the first time I've straight up walked out of a place and advised everyone waiting for a table to consider other options.

Agreed. Do not go here for the food.

I'm usually by myself here, and sit over in the bar area. Even then, service can be a bit slow and, ahem, inattentive at times. However, they do often times have an excellent taplist, which is the only reason I go (and will continue to do so, sometimes).

To be perfectly honest though... rather than going to IBU (if that was going to be an option), I'd spend the few extra minutes on the road and go to NW growlers. The selection there is every bit as good, the bartenders are friendly and attentive, and they have free popcorn (no food otherwise, though you can carry in food - and what do you know, they're right up the road from Pok Pok Wing).

Will be visiting Portland this week with some friends and can’t wait. Question: are Heater Allen cans easy to find in town or should we go to the brewery? We are staying in Pacific City for a couple days, so I don’t believe the brewery would be too far out of the way on the drive out. Any other recommendations for local packaged German styles like Heater Allen? We figure those will be perfect for the beach. Thanks!

I don't think Chuckanuts packaged product hits Oregon, but you should be able to get crowler/growler fills. Also, get you some Pfriem Pilsner.

    This^

Better beer stores in town (Belmont Station, Beermongers, John's, etc.) should have both pfreim and heater allen stuff. Also, most beer bars in town do crowlers, and as Terry suggested, definitely grab just about anything from Chuckanut if you see it (like Heater Allen, lagers are their specialty).

Here's a third vote for pFriem Pilsner, and a third vote for anything from Chuckanut.

Heater Allen Das Bier (kölsch) and Pils are already available in cans, and their new Lenzbock (maibock) cans should be showing up in Portland this week. Belmont Station is having a release party on Wednesday with some of the Heater Allen crew. They will have the Lenzbock and "one other Heater Allen beer" on tap.

Just in case you do make it over to Belmont Station, you might pick up a 4-pack of Tasties, the export lagerbier hell that Wayfinder brewed for Belmont's 22nd Anniversary. Wayfinder's head brewer Kevin Davey used to brew at Chuckanut.

I also recommend the beers of Portland's Occidental Brewing, especially the Edel-Hell. Their cans are easy to find all over town.

That should be enough options to ward off thirst for a few days. Hope you enjoy your visit!
