Doughnut Vault will be sold out by noon. Firecakes is the play.

The one in the loop doesn't do it. Only the Streeterville and West Loop locations

Good Call on Pizza at Piece. It’s far superior to Coordior’s, which is solid, but Piece is some of the best in the city.

Looks like Osmium is a 5 minute walk from where we're staying. Hope the cold brew is on tap.

If you’re in to goose stuff, Fulton taproom has wheatwine, 18 reg, and 2014 BCS coffee on tap, as well as (overpriced) bottles of everything for on-site consumption, and some for to go.

When you’re at Piece, you can walk next door to Liquor Park for some good cans (they get lil beaver and transient stuff regularly). Links taproom, right around the corner, also has some exciting (and pricey) stuff on tap.

Doughnut Vault's yeast donuts are still great (especially their jelly donuts, which are the best you'll get anywhere), but their old fashioned donuts have gone way downhill. To me, they seem like they have been fried with grease that isn't hot enough and have been sitting out too long. They leave a Crisco-like feeling in your mouth, and they never used to be that way.

Yes, it will be. Plus all Dark Matter locations usually have a selection of Do-Rite Donuts available for purchase as well.

That and it means they sit in the fryer too long lol

They have 4 cold brews on draft at all time. I recommend the nitro vanilla suburbs. Dark Matter and La Colombe are my favorite coffee shops in chicago. They do also typically have do rite donuts if you go early enough.

Was going to suggest the same thing! If Corridor is packed, grab some crowlers to-go & hit Sheffield's... It’s one of Chicago’s original craft bars, and they smoke their own bbq. Has multiple bars within & great beer garden to boot; def my go-to pregame spot for Cubs games. I see on Untappd that (as of 4/29) they have BCS Bramble, Coffee Barleywine, & Wheatwine, as well as Old Nation M-43.

Also, Goose Island Fulton is near Forbidden Root if you were wanting to fit GI into your plans (ie have a BCS on draft or bottles to-go). Could also swing by on way from Sky Deck to Piece. Goose Island Clybourn is a pretty sterile experience in my opinion, so I wouldn’t spend my limited time in Chicago going there, but just my two cents on that.

Brookfield Zoo is hands down better than Lincoln Park Zoo, but based on your short trip & logistics, LP Zoo is the way to go.

Just realized you’re in mid-trip now, so you might not even get this lol.

    Enjoy & go Cubbies!

Looks like OP is not the only one with a donut today. I'm a Sox fan but felt obligated to post that.

Yeah, definitely picked a helluva game to go too. Every ball found a fielder today. Still had a good time at the game though.

And I hit pretty much everything I planned on. Let's see:

BomboBar: I didn't get anything since I knew what kind of damage I was going to do to my body once we really got going. I've never seen anything like what they handed my kids. My son got the smores with a bottle of chocolate in the middle. Oldest daughter got the shake with donut and cookie and cotton candy. Seriously some Willy Wonka shit. My wife is a 3rd grader and got the Fruity Pebbles donut. Wild stuff.

Cerveceria Cruz Blanca: Stopped in and grabbed a bite and pints before the Skydeck. Had the house lager and whatever hazy was on tap. Wish the menu was bigger but enjoyed what I had and dug the vibe. The Mexican waiter with the Wade Boggs mustache was one of the friendliest dudes I've ever come across. Kicked him some extra on the tip. Also took home a couple bottles of Andres The Giant because of the name and whatever the barrel aged brown ale was called.

Do-Rite: Stopped in to get a few sweets for the AirBNB stay later in the night. Nothing stood out for me but the kids enjoyed it.

Forbidden Root: Went here pre-dinner at Piece. The wife and I both loved the Ghost Tropic: Lotus. Left with a few 4 packs of that and a growler of the Mellow Mallow (sp?) brown. I'm not super infatuated with the marshmallow side of it but the base beer is damn good. I'm a sucker for good browns. Overall, killer beers and a really cool place.

Piece: Goddamn, that was killer pizza. They only had 4 or 5 of their 8 beers on tap (none of which I wanted) so the beer side didn't do much for me. But I'd be a regular there for the pizza alone if I lived within 30 minutes. That'll be a go-to every time I go back.

Corridor: We stopped in before the Cubs game figuring it would be packed afterwards. More good beers with Houses of the Hazy standing out the most. Wish the doppelbock was on tap because I was suffering ipa burnout by this point. The pizza definitely wasn't Piece-good but quality, for sure. Will definitely go back in the future. Also, shout out to their housemade aioli. There's not much I wouldn't put that on. Good stuff.

Osmium: Dug the Vanilla Suburbs cold brew enough to purchase a 4 pack of cans. Really wish Indy would figure out nitro coffee. Also tried whatever the chocolate cold brew was called and took home 2 cans.

Firecakes: Stole the show for donuts. That pistachio old-fashioned was ridiculous. Kids loved what they had too. Another go-to when we're up there.

Appreciate all the rec's. Gonna revisit this thread down the line and hit the spots I missed out on. Cheers, guys.

Many of these threads get monotonous due to the lack of feedback from the OP. We assume that the recommendations fall on deaf ears.

This post really made it worth everyone's while. Good on you, and this will make me more inclined to get involved for the next person.

    Thanks!!

You did it right my guy. Great reviews and vanilla suburbs is incredible so I am glad you got to experience that cup of joy.

Is that vanilla suburbs available only at Osmium, or can I get it at Electric Mud and Star Lounge also?
