HopJam - Tulsa, OK 5/20/18

I've never been but I will also be going because my wife is a big Hanson fan. I'm kind of turning it into a work trip. And I'll be hanging with one of the breweries pouring. I'm bringing some beers from Chicago so if you want some Daisy Cutter or something HIT ME UP.

 

I'll be hanging out (i think...) with The Collective Brewing Project guys. What Half Acre beer did you get?

Hey. Almost time for another Hop Jam. Gonna be heading back again this year. What's poppin' off in Tulsa these days? Gonna hit up the usual suspects, Willows and Welltown. What else is going on?

 

Well, was about to post that I was going a week early, but looks like I will be there that weekend (Usually going to Florida the weekend of Hopjam so didn't even check). Now I have to chew over if I want to go for a couple of hours before my flight leaves that evening. Usually I catch American Solera in SOBO, Heirloom Rustic Ales (pretentious menu, but I think it is a joke, just can't tell) but great beer. I will usually just check out beer bars for the rest of the trip (checking taps on untappd, Tap Hunter and Digital Pour). Roosevelt's has a pretty good tap list and is flight friendly, but if you go over there eat somewhere else, Smoke, Andolini's Pizza (also opened one downtown I think). Downtown McNeillies has the usual solid food stuff and some pretty good taps. Fat Guy's Burger Bar if you want to get a damned good greasy burger, Tavern if you want to go upscale. I always hit up Prairie's brewpub just to see what is on tap, along with Valkyrie (cocktail bar with some surprisingly good taps sometimes).
I am going up Friday morning and my daughters get there Friday night and Sat morning. If you are hanging around on Friday and bored PM me and I will buy you a beer, least I can do for the hours you entertain me. Enjoy your stay

 

@Jplachy if you find yourself looking for something to do late at nite, Orpha's lounge is a great place. AAL's all around, usually a PBR/fireball shot special and Coop F5 behind the bar in cans. Love this place, usually end the night here. Women who run it are great and good local flair.

 

I'm doing some research for this trip and what is going on with Willows Family Ales? Are they still around? Their social media has dried up and their website is DOA.

 

Not sure, you mentioning them threw me for a loop because I didn't even know they had a taproom. Their facebook is active, might drop them a message.

There website is jacked, not working, whatever, twitter hasn't been updated since Feb, but the facebook seems to have post somewhat current. I messaged them on Facebook to ask about their hours, will respond back here if I hear from them.

 

Weird. This 100% does not work for me. Although I don’t have a Facebook account. So maybe their privacy settings are borked.

so had a break at work, never heard back from them so figured wtf give them a call (secretly bothered by the fact I had never been to their taproom). Seems that they are in the process of getting moved. From what I could gather from the call, they will be brewing at Dead Armadillo, and their beers will be available there. Also said they should be pouring at Hop Jam. Best to call Dead Armadillo before you head over to make sure they have gotten set up.

 

This makes sense because.....when you check that address its called Beach Street Brewpub. So....seems like something happened over there. Thanks for putting in the work.

 

Hope all who went had fun, was there for the first 3 hours and really enjoyed it. Other than a few things, it was a pretty good festival. Was really upset that they didn't have enough employees/volunteers to main all the beer stations. For those who just sent their beer (I am assuming that Boardwalk Distribution was working those stations) there were several stations unmanned. When I walked by Green Bench, the jockey box was there, and the guy at the booth next to it said "we just don't have anyone to man it". I came back by an hour later and the jockey box was removed. Really wanted to try their beer. If I go again, will have to stay overnight so I can enjoy the music portion.

 

Long story short they no longer have a physical location of their own and they are contract brewing with another brewery in town.
