I happened to see today that the "permitted items list" on the website says "two, factory-sealed water bottles". Of course, this and the total ounces of beer you are allowed to bring in will likely be up to whichever specific person checks your bag and how many fucks they (don't) give.

Coffee cognac might be my all-time favorite DL variant. Handjee/BVDL is always stellar, but the complexity of coffee cognac put it over the top for me. It's a Top 10 all-time beer for me.

 

I guess I choose shakey just because 7.5% vs 12.5%...

Most of the major hotels will be having huge shares that night. The Hampton share is always the biggest.

Additionally, Flossmoor in Illinois usually has a release that day and often the Local Option in Chicago has an awesome tap list.

 

Go hit up a strip club or 2 and see some of NWI’s finest talent.

 

Good to know! I believe Koval only ages their bourbon 4 years and while over-priced it is above average.

 

Put me in the camp that wants variant tap list time/locations. Finally got to try some whalez last year because of this. Previously, was lucky to get regular DL on tap. I hope they are not dropping this because of lines. In years past, all the tap locations will have boards of people congregating around each one at all times hoping for a variant to come on tap. Both scenarios will have lines.

Couldn't agree more. As someone flying solo and not doing much (if at all) in the way of sharing, I'm heavily reliant on taps this year.

 

Wonders how they feel about the great timed tapping debate of 2019...

 

I can't remember what Koval does to produce a smooth product in a shorter amount of time, but there was some step that most distillers don't do that they do. Not sure if it was adding some other kind of grain or putting the grain through another step in the process, but I'm really peeved I can't remember what it was.

Edit: NM, found it. In the distilling process they only use the heart of the distillate and don't use any of the harsh head or tail which would take a longer time to mellow out if used.

 

I'd be fine with them publishing times. In '16, I never hit on a variant, and the hoard of people just lurking around the taps waiting for something to come up was annoying. With the rain, I was not willing to just hang out hoping to get lucky.

I left that year with a bunch of leftover tap/food tickets because the lines were so long for food that I never ate and every time I check the taps it was just a bunch of shelf beer on tap. Other than a sip from friends every now and then, I drank share beer exclusively. I'm guessing this year will be the same. At 5'7" 160 lbs, I don't do well in lines. Most of the time I get moved back as others barge in front.

 

True strip club story:

Went to U of Minnesota for college, so my buddies and I decided to go to a strip club in downtown Minneapolis on like a Tuesday or something (College ID night). None of us were 21, but they still enforced the drink minimum (Hooray $9 pop with unlimited refills). One of my friends decided to sit near the stage, and when the first girl walked out, they both looked at each other awkwardly when they realized they went to high school together.

The rest of us definitely pooled our cash together to make sure she gave him the most awkward lap dance possible
