Yeah this is when the calendar helps out, I think.

    I hope.

Great video though. I liked the extra swirl or two.

Hello all, just wanted to let folks know that Heady and Focal are now getting distribution to the Brattleboro Food Co-op on Thursdays, 3 4pk/person limit on each, $14.99 per 4pk. I believe this is the farthest south they are currently distributing regularly!

I noticed today that a store in San Diego that gets Heady is actually advertising the hops:

I'm curious if this info actually came from The Alchemist. I'm a bit skeptical given the description as a northeast IPA when Kimmich has said he doesn't particularly care for the style and because it seems kind of random to reveal the hops after all this time. I'd also be pretty surprised if it didn't include Simcoe.

Also, citra is absolutely not used in Heady. Kimmich has stated such.

The old product description said that it was a proprietary blend of six hops. The only hop he specifically admits to is, in fact, Simcoe...

“This isn’t some magic formula,” he says, though Heady’s exact composition is of course a secret. John will reveal that Heady is made with British barley and American hops, and that the beer is a tribute to the hop variety Simcoe in particular.

Is San Diego getting shipments of Heady Topper legally? As a Bostonian, my heart is broken.

Yes. We've gotten maybe 3 different drops of topper, focal banger, and crusher over the last six months. Bottle shops and my local dive bar have gotten cans, of course with no dated cans. I really don't understand why breweries don't date stamp cans, really frustrating from a consumer point of view.

Yeah, it's terrible. I remember when Commonwealth first sent cans up to MA, Big Papi didn't have dates. I was like "is this really how you want to enter a market?" Nobody wants their market to be treated like a dumping ground. At least I don't.

Yep socal is a dumping ground for toppling goliath, maine brew co, and lord hobo among others. Getting cans already a month old does not bode well with a town that has 160+ breweries (san diego) and it shows as the cans just sit on shelves.

Out of curiosity, what are they charging per 4 pack or can?

usually $5.5-6.50 a can. 4 pack around $22. Lucked out and my local bar was serving up cans for 6. Had my fill and they were definitely fresh, fortunately!

Cans for $6 is cheaper than VT at bars, I think I usually see it at $8/can. I paid $15.99 in southern VT for a 4 pack a few weekends ago.

With those prices I think you need to look around a bit more.

Kimmich is anti-can dating and to some extent I see his point. He stands by the beer at any age and wants to avoid the date hunters and playing into the hype. And doesn't the Alchemist can condition Heady for some weeks before releasing? Thought I read that somewhere.

I would agree that Heady stands up better than any hop intense IPA I am aware of. Fresh is preferred but Heady is still solid 6+ months out. I don't think Crusher and Focal hold up as well (personally).

Regardless of quality of beer, it deteriorates with time and that statement is a cop out
