    Hey,

I'm brewing an all Chinook IPA and making up a recipe by combining a few clones. I brewed it on Sunday Feb 19 (2 weeks ago today) and want to know when the optimal time to dry hop it would be? It's still fermenting.

Also, how much Chinook should I add when I dry hop? 1 oz? I'm using pellets. I'm looking to make a very hoppy beer!

    Batch size - 5 gal
    Hopping schedule -
    1 oz chinook - 60 min
    .5 oz chinook - 10 min
    .5 oz chinook - 1 min

Welcome to the BA site, mazowaee, and to the Homebrewing forum. Is your date correct in your post, or is the "two weeks ago" the accurate time since your brew day?

I am assuming the date is wrong (feb 19th was not a sunday), and two weeks ago is more accurate.

I have limited experience with chinook, but would say you want more like 2 or 3oz if you want a hoppy beer. More for a very hoppy beer but I am not sure how much is too much chinook. To me, your boil additions are very low for a hoppy beer so would require 2oz+ for dry hops. This is just my opinion, with not knowing the rest of the recipe.

From the looks of that hop schedule, your gonna end up with a bitter slightly piney/earthy pale ale.

Chinook is a good hop but better in a blend. If ya can Centennial or Cascade go great with Chinook. You’ll get that classic West Coast style hop profile. Unless you really want Chinook to be the star.

For a “hoppy” IPA something like this might be a better recipe
    .5 oz Chinook @60
    1-2 ozs Chinook @10
    Whirlpool~<180f- 2-4 ozs Chinook
Dry Hop~ 3-5 days left before packaging 2-6 ozs Chinook

Like I said a blend of Cascade or Centennial or all three will probably give a better hop profile. Just use them later in the boil.

Hope you stick around. A lot good advice and helpful homebrewers here.
