No wonder why they said it was sold out and laughed when I got there. What a waste of 4 hours and gas!!!

Has anyone done a little side by side with this years rum barrel and last years? Curious to see how they compare.

I had one last night too and thought it was good. I originally passed on this beer when it showed up several weeks ago based on my experience with the 2018 version - which to me tasted like watered down rum and was not very enjoyable. Just not up to the standards I've come to find with most Brewer's Reserve stuff. After a few people reported that this year's version was much improved I went ahead and bought a single yesterday to give it a shot. It's definitely improved and I thought pretty tasty. For me, I perceive most CW Brewer's Reserve stuff to be thin, so that was not a surprise to me. The barrel is way toned down from last year, but it needed to be. Coconut was not over the top. Even had some coconut floaties in it. I liked it, but not sure I'd go out and buy a whole 4 pack, mostly because I have SO much beer.

TLDR - If you disliked 2018, find a single of 2019 and give it a shot. It was worth my $

The thin argument against CW is getting old. If you want mud pouring out of a bottle there are plenty of breweries that'll sell you that for $30-40 per bomber. I find that the CW offerings are more drinkable because they're not so viscous.

My comment on the Rum Coconut might have been better stated as thin in flavor as compared to last year's bottling.

It’s just different preferences. I don’t think @flat_lander was making an argument, just giving his opinion. Some people like thicker stouts, some don’t, some like both depending on their mood.

I didn't propose an argument. I simply stated my perception of their Brewer's Reserve line of beers. Which I also, as a whole, happen to really like.

You are correct sir. I literally said:

And that's not a knock. Just how I experience their beers compared to the myriad of other BA stuff flooding the market these days. And I happen to be someone who can appreciate a stout with less body and one that is thiccc bro.

TLDR: 2018 Rum Barrel = bad. 2019 Rum Barrel = good. For my money at least.

Rum barrel was my least favorite of last year's (too much rum!) so wasn't planning to try this year's but you've sold me on giving it a shot. Central Waters knows what they're doing so I'm sure they took the feedback from last year to improve it.

It dropped on Monday and shouldn't be hard to track down. It was open to order from the distributor.

From what I've heard all their releases are in 12oz 4-pack going forward. Bombers are only available out of the brewery. Hopefully this release makes it to Minnesota soon as it was one of my favorite beers last year!

Now that you mention I believe I may have heard something along those lines as well. If that is the case I think it is a move in the right direction

According to Central Waters' Instagram page, this year's Vanilla Bean Stout is 12% a.b.v.!! Up from 9.5% a.b.v. last year.

Since they refuse to, y'know, actually put this on the packaging for reasons unclear to me ( @RyanFindlay ), I thought I'd give you a heads up. Be careful!

Interesting. I thought the VB Stout was a nice improvement from last year. Little thicker mouthfeel, vanilla is nice and nuanced and doesn't remind one of drinking pure vanilla extract. And love the format change.

Really excited this one is hitting 4 packs.
