tasting notes for reptilefund? havent seen anyone try that variant yet. Im assuming you have because you ranked it so low.

    Right under FVM.

Also, we swam in speciation and FFG sours during DLD. In the early morning heat, between monsters stouts, it was perfect.

Sorry for the confusion, as I said in another post my list is partially based on prior years (in the case of fvm) and descriptions. I just simply hate mezcal so I assume I would hate a beer aged in mezcal barrels.

My list was basically ranking which bottles I would have been happy about getting.

That's cool and all, but please rank them in order I would prefer. I'll be waiting.

gotcha. mezcal isnt my jam either, but the bourbon might compliment it well. just waiting for a horizontal invite to open mine.

having had a few of the variants on draft that day, heres my personal tier list:

    S+:
Hanjee - huge, rich, natural vanilla character, sludgey thick, smooth barrel notes. Oddly enough, Goose VR stands up to it in the realm of big vanilla ba stouts.

    A:
Loadstar - oily-sweet toasted coconut. It's pretty cloying, but if you can get beyond that, Load was amazing. Definetly the diabetes winner of the year.

    B:
Rrari - strawberry forward ba neo style done well. barely got any coconut flavor. had moore rare scooop the same day and rrari paled in comparison. Cycle nailed that style. DOOM inspired label was the coolest thing ive ever seen.

    C:
CTM - '17 chemtrail was straight cinnamon toast crunch. it was perfect (for me). '18 was big red gum cinnamon blast, didnt like it as much. '19 was big red gum x1000. lingering peppery heat. wonder how this will age..

FVM - espresso coffee bomb. slight vanilla, lotta roasty-sweet complexity. its not the hot garbage from previous years, just dont age this one.

    D:
Cavaleiro - wine barrel did the base beer justice, but doesnt have the pastry notes that everyone gloms over, including myself.

    Public Service Announcement:

Cavaleiro of Varnov 2019 isn’t in wine barrels. It is calvados, a French apple brandy.

    Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

So I'm actually hearing good things from a few people about Varnov...but I didn't get to try it. Kinda bummed now

Varnov was a winner for me when I tasted it. Definitely got that apple brandy barrel flavor on it.

Thank god someone finally said this. It's AB barrels and apparently worked really well from everyone I've heard tasted it.

Calvados is so 2013. Did they add caramel? How about Cinnamon? Freeze dried cherries? Craisins? I'm sure it is delicious but if it ain't adjunct it's a junk.

Edit: Actually, they should have done the vanilla in the Calvados barrels....

Yeah it was a nice surprise on draft. No one cared about it before FVM went on at one of the tents so you could just walk up without a line.

I was limited on time this year, and did not hunt down variant taps, but I had both Cavaleiro and Loadstar. Really liked both, but Cavaleiro was the bigger surprise with just the barrel treatment. I got a lot of Apple Brandy on the finish. Very nice. Loadstar was the variant I ended up with. I am looking forward to revisiting it in a few months. Our group also snagged 2 FVM and a BBADL. Not a bad day!

And so here's the rub. I don't really care about perceived secondary values, and rarely trade in that fashion.

Was I pumped to get one of the "hot" bottles 10 minutes into my first DLD? I sure was. But I kept the 'Rrari because no one else in my group got it yet and we were trying to get as many different variants as we could. Because we plan to drink them together. I'm excited to have a bottle my group doesn't have so I can share it with them. If it's the worst beer ever, that'll make for some good times!

If the proposition hadn't come at a pretty inconvenient time and my group had more than one 'Rrari and no Chemtrail, I would've done it in a second and probably told him to keep his money.

EDIT- And yeah, the DOOM themed label is pretty bad ass.

No variant can be as bad as Turtledogg, I don’t care how awesome @croush claims that it is.

    I concur
    I’ve had 17, 18 and 19 chem, still have an 18 chem
I would have not traded a this years chem for the rrari I (my wife) got.
