Cool, but I'd be concerned the quality of them since they are so old. (loved them fresh) I opened up XVI last year and it was heavy oxidized. Based on the breweries response, I'd say it's a crapshoot on those bottles now.

Thank you for the e-mail but sorry to hear you were disappointed with the bottle of Old Rasputin XVI. That beer was produced over 5 years ago so it does not surprise me that it has developed some aged flavors. Aged beer will begin to oxidize over time although the changes are generally good with beer like Old Rasputin. I really have no explanation for why it tastes the way it does at this point or if it is inappropriately oxidized. My suggestion would be to age it less next time. We produced Barrel-Aged Rasputin XX just last year and it is in peak form right now. The beer is already a year old when we bottle it, so additional aging is not necessary or recommended. Aging it further is purely up to the consumer

I generally like North Coast. Regarding Old Rasputin it sometimes take me a bit to get use to it before I like it. In this case I'd hate to waste $10 "getting use to it" before I started to enjoy it. I'm kind of cheap that way.

4 and 5 year old versions I would be skeptical of but I've had it 1 year past bottling (so 2 years since the beer was finished) and it's tops. Usually closer to 20 than 40 too, good deal if you ask me
