This is exciting news, I have always found it a treat when I find myself in a location that has some 3F. Hopefully that can become more common. It looks like a pilgrimage might be in order once the new location is operational

There's plenty of room in that industrial park for the larger facility footprint, but I still wonder about the surface streets to get there. Calumet Ave can already be a snarled mess of red lights, traffic, and railroad tracks. With the "destination" that FFF is planning, how will the city handle all the extra customers driving off the highway?

Saw alpha king, space station and snake laser in PA.. none had beer dates anywhere. I took five minutes and looked everywhere, nothing.. fair to say I bought nothing, fuck them!

I used to live 15 miles from FFF before moving to Houston in 2017. Most Thursday’s for years my local stores would get ZD - yeah I was a truck chaser years ago! It was 1-3 cases maybe per store. Then my last year in NW Indiana it went to maybe 8-12 cases in the local stores as they expanded and upped the production. Always 10 days-or-less fresh, i even got it 2 days fresh once.

With that, it never sat more than 1 day at the stores - arrived Thursday’s and was gone by Friday, even for locals 15 miles from the brewery we would buy it up quick most weeks.

Also, it used to be $10/6-pack at the brewery, $12 to as high as $17 in local retail. I think it’s $12/6-pack now at the brewery.

Exactly! Back in the day that would be ok but too much good beer to spend a premium on beer that might be old.

FFF has been in the game long enough to know better. Can’t change with the times then beat it.

I stay shocked at how popular these guys are. Their brewery has that whole 'we are way cooler than you' vibe, their prices in retail have always been super high, and they don't date their beer. They make solid beer but I felt like they only got by because they were big fish in a tiny pond (nw indiana sucks) but they keep on keeping on, even with chicago's craft beer explosion so I guess they are way cooler than me and know what they are doing

I am far removed from the local or regional scene in Indiana but I traded for most of their beers back in the day, not sure how their portfolio is these days. I would drink them if I could find them locally but if they didn’t date them and priced at the premium I hear I wouldn’t.

I guess a good reputation, a fuck you attitude and rad labels sell beer.

Just to give you some insight, the town motto for the town their in is 'faith, family, fun' so you can imagine that 5 or 10 years ago there weren't a lot of games in town for the metal head crowd.
Also, growing up in Michigan with family in wisconsin and illinois there was never a consensus on what midwestern state was the best but there was a universal understanding that indiana was the worst. More recently, a friend of mine moved from CA back to indiana to be closer to family and whenever I talk to her she likes to remind me that somebody voted Ft. Wayne the best value city in the country (way more affordable than LA or the bay area she assures me:grimacing:) so I think being early to the party with a good line up of hop forward and other big flavored beers combined with being a haven for everyone in the area who didn't follow the ultrabland masses gave them a huge leg up.
And they do play metal and show old cult/campy movies at the brewery so that's definitely appealing to a decent sized crowd

They definetly date their beer. The Gumball head bottle I am about to drink has a bottled on date of 02-22-19. It is printed on the top half of the bottle right above the label line. Although it is very difficult to read in the light. It was much easier to read pulling it out of my dark fridge with the only light source indirectly feet away.

I’ve been to FFF and bought cases of zombie. I recall those were dated right on the bottle neck.. so I was surprised and frankly pissed off as I held up the line trying desperately to find a bottle date. I even got out of line and got out the old cell phone flashlight.. and nothing. Maybe I’m blind but I checked the space station and snake laser quite thoroughly.

they don't use the yellow ink like the used to. i'm not sure what it is but it is very faint and difficult to read if you don't know what you're looking for. As fatboy mentioned, on the 12 oz bottles it's right above the label, literally "touching" the label.

doesn't matter anyways because the brewery burned down.

If you have to look that hard for a date, well they’re trying to fool you. It’s just as easy to make it legible as not.
