This discussion is getting boring. Why can't a fest be just a damn fest for whatever reason they choose it to be? Far & Away is for breweries outside of Illinois, Big North is just Half-Acre beers, whatever fest is for whatever fest. Thank God for some variety instead every single damn fest being exactly the same shit: a bunch of neckbeards looking for the next whale/beer they haven't had before.

It's a fun event. Go and enjoy Half-Acre beer. If you don't want to pay and/or have a problem with the price, here's a great solution: DON'T GO.

This is the second biggest reason I'm salty ever year that I miss BN; I still like the occasional clusterfuck fest (aiming for DLD next year since I took a couple off), but the more beer I drink, and the more good local stuff I have, the more I realize that I'm starting to prefer the more laidback releases and fests to the ones with crazy whales everywhere.

That's not to say that I don't love trying new non-local beers, but the scene is so solid now that it's getting hard to justify putting myself through the aforementioned neckbeard hell. I just know that by the time I make one of these events, word will have gotten out, and it'll be too late for what you guys have described.

Correct, it's a festival to celebrate and enjoy Half Acre beer. Whether they're year-round, seasonal or experimental beers. It's a beautiful event.

im not reading all of this but the Big North is for normal people who want to hang out outside, drink half acre beers and enjoy the summer time not for beer ticking nerds who want to pound 15% beers and get drunk in an hour. It's such a fun time and its my favorite festival of the year because of how relaxed and chill it is. I have friends who aren't big beer drinkers who come with me each year because of the atmosphere. Also, It probably won't sell out until August so if you don't know if you want to go now, you can still buy later

There's a lot of places you can drink Half Acre beers outside and enjoy atmosphere, that doesn't cost $83. But it sells out every year so obviously charging the same price as FoBAB is working for them.

I get why FOBAB is expensive- half the ticket price goes to air filters to scrub out the flatulence.

It's called getting old. These days, if I'm heading to an out of town brewery, the first thing I do is check to make sure they have nothing on their calendar for that day. If I can't roll up to a place and find a parking spot in under 30 seconds, I'm out, baby!

I've never really liked crowds; even as a kid I thought the lines at Six Flags were ridiculous. I put up with this shit for a while because I was late to craft beer, and had to catch up (I still have to check vanilla Dark Lord off my list, so that's one of the few lines I'm willing to sit through). But yeah, one of my favorite things about visiting breweries outside of Chicago (in particular North Carolina, which is one of the places I visit most) is the feeling of freedom that comes with being able to sit where you want, move around, and order whatever beer you like, at your own pace.

None of this "got my pour of X whale, gonna drink it at the back of the same line to maximize my drinking before it kicks" bullshit.

I already got in trouble for this like a week or two ago, so I'll go ahead and shut my mouth this time. :stuck_out_tongue:

(I don't dislike it DC, I just prefer all the other variants of it)

Bought a two week old 4 pack for $8.99 and guzzled it last weekend. Enjoyed every second.

Fair enough but other variants aren't sitting fresh as hell at every single grocery store in the Chicago metropolitan area year round for cheap... that is the legend of Daisy Cutter. No one else has been able to achieve this. Lizard King is great but less available and more freshness issues IMO.

Why dabble with craft beer If $83 is such a large burden to you? Nothing about craft beer is cheap, we all know this
