Was the number to call through the lodge or a local ride/taxi company? I am also starting to get nervous about this DD thing and the fact that there is no uber/lyft over there so trying to figure out the best plan.

Finally headed to HF for the first time next week. Is mud season over for 2019?

Should be a good time of year to go. What day of the week are you heading there?

I land in Burlington mid-day on Wednesday. I should be able to arrive at HF early on Thursday, and then I may head back on Friday or Saturday. Was trying to figure out if I needed to rent an SUV in place of a smaller vehicle.

If you have any tips for a first-timer, I'd love to know how to make the most of the adventure.

You will be fine without a SUV. Thursday afternoon is my favorite time. Usually chill. Hopefully weather will be nice and you can sit in the sun. Been a lot of nice releases in the last few weeks, but always plenty of stuff to enjoy. Large bottles for onsite will require you to share with someone. It is usually not hard to find someone if you are alone.

Retail is building on left if you have the road to your back. Taproom and growlers is building on the right with wrap around porch.

If you are getting growlers grab a number as you walk in the door.

If you are buying bottles and there is a line in retail you can grab a pour in Taproom to sip while you are in line.

In Taproom you can ask for tastes of anything on tap. There will be a list of onsite pours and bottles on the bar,

Wow - that's super helpful. I will be going solo, so I'll seek out a new friend or two to split a bottle. Great advice. Cheers!

God damn Marie is good. I bought a case when I was there... wish I’d bought more.

And to think, Mary is infinitely better.

In my mind a Helles is even more difficult to make. I enjoy Mary, I have more appreciation for Marie. The malt complexity is crazy. It might be the truest form of dedication to ones craft.

Yeah, I was bummed to miss it. A buddy of mine was up last weekend and that was on my order, but it sold out and Mary was the surprise consolation.

This batch of Mary is excellent imo. Hoping it lasts so I can snag some more when I'm up there next weekend.

Anybody get any of that Riwaka Pale Ale this week? I’d bet that’s the 2019 Riwaka Shaun got to select for the first time. Supposedly his favorite hop and maybe the hardest hop on the planet to source.

Think that’s the same crop that ended up in this batch of Three Magic Letters? That beer is tasting amazing—some real punch to it.

Do all of the regular HF bottles (Anna, Arthur, Florence, Dorothy) keep drinking well for a long time if kept cold? Like multiple years? Or are any of them much better to have relatively fresh?

I think they drink great fresh, but can also develop very well with time. It all comes down to personal preference. It's always fun to buy a few bottles of one, each, and try it out. Fresh, 6 months, year, or whatever, then see what you prefer. After I make a visit I like to drink the bottles I bring home fresh. If I get multiples, I'll put them away and revisit after some time.

Thank you! Yes, I am interested in purchasing several of each to have both fresh and after a period of time.
