Guinness is amazing, having such a hard time choosing. I have had great memories with all these Ales. What got me on BA was a thread called where are the cheap ales at?

Don't come to Pennsylvania if you want to find them that cheap. We'll not tolerate inexpensive beers here.

And Guinness is the best of these beers.

Leffe gets more crap than it deserves, it's actually a pretty nice beer in this price range. Still, I'm much more likely to go with the Guinness Extra, especially now that it's no longer being brewed in Canada and gained back that smidge of character it had lost then.

Most flagship beers here are under 10 a sixer. I would prefer a fat tire over the three listed. Of the three listed Guinness. Never had leffe, but I am not a new castle fan. At all.

I agree. Leffe is only 4,50€ around here a sixer. Which makes it a good beer. Guinness is pricier but yes, better.

thankyou for telling me, i have deeply considered moving to PA. how much do you get them for? if i go local here about 8.99 for N and G, L is 10. if I go to TW there about a dollar cheaper or more but its a abt 20 mins to get there. i dont think i saved money but there avalibilty and variety is high,

I wish Leffe came in 12 packs, Maybe I should just but a case of it at TW. i store my Ale warm in my room and seems like it would do better in a box vs being exposed.

Below are the prices for those three beers at my locals Wegmans - prices are total (include tax):
    • Newcastle - $9.99
    • Leffe Brown - $10.99
    • Guinness Extra - $9.99
The beer prices in PA are not the lowest in the nation but the distribution/availability of selection in the Philly area is outstanding. And with a new small, local brewery opening up on what seems like a monthly basis it just keeps improving in that regard.

    Cheers!

Leffe is wonderful, I must be rarity because I am young working class man that loves Ale. Newcastle gets so much flack from people of all sides its astounding, more flack than I have seen from anyone of these but its the Ale I have been following the longest.

Some Englishmen hate it for changing, and Americans are calling are version an ipa... I love the hops, it balances it out and gives it a earthy natural vibe and thank God for the brown bottle.. I never thought is say this but I guess there are some people that are more sensitize to hops then me and I cant even drink a quality hoppy Pale Ale. I am happy that there is something available to me besides AAL.

Prices up here are a lot higher, but when you factor in the exchange rate, probably not much more than $10 US for 6 of each.

I’d go with Guinness I suppose. Though, having lived briefly in Cork almost 2 decades ago, I prefer Beamish. I lived nearby the brewery and still miss the smell that permeated the neighbourhood.

Cheap Ale must be in the middle, the largest camps are AAL and craft drinker
Yes, the hops dominated for me. I am open to try it again, but through researching descriptions of it and people talking about it. my impression is the hops are supposed to be the main flavor and the malt is in the background and I don't like that. I wish i knew what percentage Malt and Hops I like but I know I dont like the Malt in the background. A safe guess would be I dont like hope to be more than half the flavor. I may enjoy 60 percent?

It seems to me that American Pale Ales (e.g., SNPA) is not a style for you.

I'm sure less hoppy American Pale Ales exist, but they definitely seem rare.I don't want to give up on the style, but that decision or similar seems easier then questing for that one Pale Ale that doesn't fit its style norms. They seem to go by that amazing style that is known as English Pale Ale.

The tops selling beer style for craft beer consumers are IPAs. What you are most likely to see are APAs that approach the IPA style since those are the beers in most demand by craft beer consumers.

Your tastes seem closer to the Bitter Ale/English Pale Ale style (which we discussed elsewhere).

Have you considered homebrewing? Then you can make the beers that best suit your palate. I have an English Bitter Ale (English Maris Otter Pale Malt, English Hops (East Kent Golding hops), West Yorkshire Ale yeast) in my primary fermenter right now.

    Cheers!

HB doesn't seem for me but you never know. On a similar vein I do want to ask you, would you ever recommend kegs for me? When I was drinking more heavily 3-4 a day, i was interested as it seemed easier then to deal with all these bottles. Now I drink about 1-2 a day. it may not not work for me but id be nice to know if i have option. I know almost nothing about kegs.

Funny that everyone here can get a six pack of Guinness Extra cheaper than you can in Dublin. About $11 (€9.90) in my local supermarket! Says a lot about the crazy taxes we have to pay on beer.
