Any NYC options besides Blind Tiger? The Chip Shop in Brooklyn used to have them on a semi-regular basis but they closed a few months back.

    Here's another one:

Triumph Brewing Co. (138 Nassau Street, Princeton, NJ)

I like to patronize this brewpub, because the founder, Ray Disch, hired a lobbyist to get a statute changed to permit brewpubs in New Jersey. (In New Jersey government, nothing much gets accomplished without hiring a lobbyist.) It was an uphill effort, opposed by a large St. Louis-based corporation that operated a major brewery in Newark, but Ray prevailed. Then Princeton elitist NIMBYs swung into action, with a zoning beef, outraged that something so declasse as beer would be brewed in their town. Ray ultimately overcame the NIMBYs, which was a big win, considering that the only segment of the U. S. Interstate Highway system as originally planned that was never built was a section of I-95 that was blocked by Princeton elitists. So, if you happen to be in Princeton, and are glad that New Jersey has brewpubs, drop into Triumph for a pint. It's a nice place. Food's not bad. Beer's good, too.

It absolutely is. Knowledgeable, friendly staff, a well curated draft and bottle list, beautiful decor, beer nerds AND regular drinkers are at home, and NO TV's!

Which for me, beyond the cask ale, is the most important defining difference between a proper pub and a bar.

Agree 100%. We don't give our young kids much screen time at all, so when we go out somewhere with a TV they are absolutely transfixed. It doesn't matter what's on, it could just be two boring talking heads, and they just can't look away. Bulls Head is perfect for an early dinner with the family.

With a free account, you can use the filter on the PA brewery map to see which breweries have cask beer (filter by "Always" or "Sometimes"). I didn't do a count but looks like about a dozen always have at least one cask beer in SEPA.

    The
The accuracy of that filter is a bit dubious. The most glaring example is that F&M doesn't show up under either cask category, same with a few others mentioned in this thread.

And several of the places indicated as "always" should be "sometimes" as least based on my personal experience (Lost Tavern, Tuned Up, LaCabre, Bar Hygge, Urban Village).

Outside of PA, two places of note I've been have been to:

-The Ship Inn brewpub (Milford, NJ) that specializes in British beers and had one of their beers on cask

-Seneca Lake Brewery (Rock Stream, NY ) in the Finger Lake area that only serves cask beer:

This is exactly why, in my post that initiated this thread, I stressed that I was seeking input from recent personal experience.

There are two "unfortunately..." responses required (unfortunately).

    1) Forest & Main has yet to provide their information for the site. So they don't show up on any filters. We're working on it...currently at about 70% of PA breweries providing info.

    2) All info is provided directly by the breweries, so it's posted that way until a knowledgeable patron like yourself points out an inaccuracy. Thanks!

Sorry, you're right that you were super specific about personal experience. No intent to hijack the thread, just thought that it might be a helpful resource.

For what it's worth, see above for some explanation on this. The info is all provided by the breweries within the last calendar year, but the filters don't include the minority of breweries that have yet to respond...and apparently some of the breweries overstated the regularity of their cask offerings.

Ship Inn is one that I can personally vouch for - I grew up in Milford and they always nail the English styles and have (at least) one cask offering.

AND... Seneca Lake Brewing’s beer is very good to boot. The place and area are beautiful as well.

Cask beer is becoming increasingly rare in NYC in my experience. If a place still has a beer engine in use, chances are it's not always in use. The only place I consider a standby is The Ginger Man. The last time I had a drink with Alex Hall of The Gotham Imbiber, someone asked him what the best option in NYC is at the moment and he echoed the same place. I also like the entire C.O.B.R.A. club (Codgers of Old Beer And Real Ale) thing going on at The Diamond in Greenpoint, but it's sporadic.

Going further south, when in DC, hit Churchkey.
