Cheating the system using a free sample can from one of my store dudes. NOT FOR SALE. This is Revolution Hazy-Hero. Canned 13 days ago. This was excellent. Lasting rocky head retention/thick foamy lacing. Aromas and flavors of big tangerine, red grapefruit, lemon, lime, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, honeydew melon, blueberry, gooseberry, citrus peel/rind, wood, peppercorn, and pine hops; with moderate wheat, cracker, biscuit dough, light honeyed malts; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Light pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, woody, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-plus body; balanced creamy, silky, bready, grainy malts; sticky hops, and some resins/rinds in the mouthfeel. Lightly increasing resin dryness, no hop astringency. Very smooth, nicely soft, not aggressive, no warmth of 7.3%. Great Citra, Amarillo, Galaxy, and Mosaic profile. Super juicy, vibrant, and fairly dank/earthy hops; with a great balancing wheat/oat/malt backbone. Mild residual sweetness with lingering resin dryness. Well made style. This is a pilot batch, so who knows if they will tweak it or not. Falls in line with the rest of the series, no complaints. 4.03

Barshasketh is so amazing. Just some random Black Metal recommendation I found a couple days ago.

Clear and somewhat dark gold colored body; thick and frothy head; sticky globs of foam clinging to the glass. Big hop nose on the beer; floral and spicy; cereal grain notes; mineral. Beautiful sweet malt backbone taste with a clean and bright hop bitterness adding highlights. Medium-heavy body; smooth but with some crispness on the palate; a nice cross between sweet and dry with the overall mouthfeel.

My sample was canned 03/18/19 and states "Drink Local". Well, I'm not that close to La Vista, NE, but I surely will drink their beer. Jesus, but this is a finely balanced and tasty brew! I believe I got this two of these through Tavour, and I only wish I had more or that it was distributed here in Colorado Springs. This is a good one, folks!. Get it and enjoy!!
    ------------
Perhaps my sensory input devices are way out of spec (comparing my review of this beer with most), but damn if this isn't a most fine and righteous beer. I'm rather surprised I hadn't reviewed it earlier as I generally do that with my Tavour beer deliveries. And I usually get two of each beer I order, so I can only hope that I have the second can squirreled away somewhere close by.

The afternoon in Colorado Springs has turned cool, rainy, and thunder-y. My kind of afternoon to sit within the hallowed hall of the 'Fortress of Solitude' with natural, ambient lighting, choice beers, and a plethora of classic and off-the-wall tune-age to soothe my mind and ears. Yes, sir. Weather, beer, and tunes. I love my life...

I had my first ever Old Rasputin about 1am this morning so I guess it qualifies for the thread. Stouts aren't my favorite kind of beer but I like a good one when I'm in the mood. There's lots of positive reviews out there that made me want to pick up a 4pk yesterday and I'm glad I did.

I don't get my hopes up too high with stouts because I'm just as likely to hate it as love it. This one was a stunner, though. As a newbie, I can't pretend to be able to pick out all the nuances of the flavors in this, or any other beer. I just know this is one of the best beers I've ever had.

Other stouts I've had featured a very sweet flavor, I'm assuming that's malt, over everything else to the point that it was almost nauseating. OR tastes dark, savory, not sweet and it suits me perfectly. There's nothing to dislike about it. 4.7 / 5

Now cracking some Saugatuck Rum Barrel Aged Imperial Beam Me Up Stouty. Thank you @Blackop555 for this, I was truly excited to try this but sadly it is infected (not @Blackop555 fault, still very happy to be trying it). Reading a few of the reviews from the last few months they clearly had an infection issue, which sucks because it seems like this beer could have been amazing. In drinking it, the infection at least isn’t to a point where it is undrinkable but it is clearly not what they wanted for the beer.

12 oz bottle, dated 2/27/18, poured into a teku

A- Black with a massive and rocky mocha head. Between the hiss of opening the bottle and how the head formed I’m thinking it might be infected.

S- Sour/infected, cherries, chocolate, roasted malts, no rum or coconut.

T- Cherries, chocolate, charred oak, roasted malts, some coconut on the back end.

M- Fairly smooth, medium body, high carbonation.

O- Would love to revisit a non-infected bottle. I love the idea of this beer and the hints of coconut I do get, but it being infected is hurting the beer. I think I will be able to finish the bottle.

Stonecloud Brewing's Touching Cloth Imperial Stout. A brusier checking in at 13.2% ABV with toasted coconut & cacao. 3.92 Overall

Pours an effervescent ebony with 2+ fingers of tight tan head. Minimal head retention and lacing

S: Dark fruit & a little toasted coconut

T: Plenty of cocoa, dryness & just a little coconut up front. Dryness, Baker's Chocolate & a little toasty coconut as this warms & just a little raisin & toasted malt, a little vanilla as well. Finishes dry with Dark chocolate, some vanilla and a little bit of toasty coconut

MF: Medium/thick body with pretty dialed back carbonation

ABV is well disguised, pretty solid, albeit pricey offering

Greetings, NBS friends. I’m sitting at my drinking spot for the last dozen years or so, the wrought iron table and chairs that have been with me and Mrs O from Minnesota to Texas and now Indiana. This is home for me.

Today I have a couple of beers for your consideration, first a big ol’ Gose from Founders that our Colonel @cjgiant offered as a group share in this space a couple of weeks ago. I hear, and I obey.

Pours a hazy copper color with a dense tan head. Certainly the darkest Gose I can remember trying. Significant lime and salt notes on the nose, and more than a hint of the tequila barrel.

The very first thing I thought when I took a big pull on this was “that’s like rum.” Obviously, it was tequila and not rum, but the barrel had a caramel-ish flavor for me.

As my palate settled down, the tart lime flavor and sea salt really came forward to par-tay with the tequila. Wow, is this working for me. There’s a lot of body to this beer, yet the booze doesn’t slap you upside the head - it’s very subtle, only noticeable at the very, VERY back of the palate after a rest.

I don’t think I’ve ever had a margarita (I’m a beer guy from way back in the olden day’s), but I’m a big fan of this. I may have to try a margarita the next time we go out for Mexican food.

Unless they have this on tap.

Glad you enjoyed it. Praise for receiving this should properly go to @Texwild for this, as I merely took advantage of Fremont's increased production and the consequently greater number of bottles of this now reaching my far eastern Washington theater of operations. I'm not sure how Fremont's barrel aging program beers would do in head-to-head competition against the biggest names associated with such beers, but I wouldn't shy away from mentioning them in the same breath.

Sorry to hear about this, but I am pretty sure the whole batch was infected. I think @CanConPhilly had one last fall on NBS and had a bad time. I reviewed mine 2-3 months after bottling and it was absolutely amazing. Bought more following, and they have all flown south since then. Not sure if they are going to make it again just yet. I know that BBA Imperial Blueberry did make a return this year though, so there may be hope next year.

Pretty nice day here on the Western Slope, cloudy, around 83 at the trailhead. DAMN fuckn' bugs this year so far, you stand still for a few minutes and you get attacked. Having a very nice brew this afternoon, a very tasty sipper. Watching some of this Krypton series.

This beer was $1.99. It was the only one of the shelf and I grabbed it while shopping for singles.

Look: Bright. Crystal clear with bubbles rising to the top. A rocky, white head that settles at a finger, leaving much lacing in its wake. Attractive lager.

Smell: Sweet, doughy, grassy. Some lemony citrus as well. Cooked grains. Clean.

Taste: Sweet, doughy, with hints of grassy and lemon lime citrus. Clean.

Feel: More full bodied than American Adjunct Lager, which does add favorably to the drinking experience. Medium level of carbonation.

Overall: A nicely drinkable lager. A bit on the sweeter side. If that’s not your thing you might not like this beer, but I’m finding it a clean and enjoyable lager.

    16 oz. can.
    Canned 05/17/19.
Moderate pour yields a 3/8 inch off white head over a murky light golden body with some lacing. Nose of vanilla foremost, followed by slight graham cracker, slight lemon, and slight hops. Taste mirrors nose somewhat with a finish of:
"a burp after ingesting a slice of lemon meringue pie."
Good feel and overall, dessert is over...

#2, another share, this time with our beer nerd friend @Buck89. This one’s a bit more impressive, only because Floyds isn’t noted for a wide distro pattern, and Tennessee is hella far from Indiana as beer distro goes.

Pours a black-ish color with a voluminous tan head. Peanut aromas literally leap from the bottle when you pop the top - when I cracked this open, my wife asked from 5 feet away, “is that peanut butter?” There’s also a significant chocolate note on the nose.

The peanut butter is decidedly prominent on the taste, but the chocolate and vanilla, appearing for the first time, are not shy. This is a flavorful oatmeal stout that would be elevated to world-class if it had a bit more body.

Now please excuse me - I have a sudden hankering for a bucket full of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups.

    Happy Father's Day, NBS!
I am off work, grilling and getting ready to catch up on everybody's posts.
A far as where I drink, I am very much a homebody. The beer's cheaper and better, it's always served properly and the music is always exactly what I want. The first summer I was here I noticed how enthusiastic people were with their balconies and anyone who's ever been here during the summer will know that people here are all about eating and drinking outside on patios to take full advantage of the fact that is nice for part of the year instead of always being dark and cold. Before I moved to Montreal I'd never lived in an apartment. So having a nice balcony for the hot months (at least during other summers than this one) was a foreign concept to me. Well, after having multiple iterations over 6 years, fighting squirrels, giving up on vegetables and accepting that my balcony has far from ideal light I have still managed to have a slightly more enjoyable balcony biergarten with each passing year. Here is a picture of this year's version. Ironically, I can't get it all in one picture without using the panorama setting, but the panorama setting makes it look far bigger than it actually is. Anyway, I am sitting here now and having a new beer on this, the first fairly sunny, semi-warm day in almost a week.
I am having a Bitter from a hit or miss local brewery. I am hoping this one is a hit as it is one of my favorite styles and I feel like well-made ones are few and far between.
It pours glowing orange, clearish with a skiff of soda-like beige head that is pretty short-lived; scarce lacing. The aroma is earthy with orange rinds, bread, black tea, blackberries and soil. The flavor follows with astringent hops, dirt, black tea and some earthy bitterness. It is pretty drinkable with subdued carbonation, some astringency and a lingering finish. This is neither a great nor terrible bitter in my opinion. The look and flavor are nice enough, nothing too flashy, but they are lacking in that nice substantial malt body that I like in a beer like this. Also the astringency from how it was hopped kind of gets in the way for the taste and feel. The aroma, on the other hand, benefits from their strange (in my mind at least) choice of dry-hopping with fuggles. Orange marmalade, berries and dirt come out in a really nice way. All told, not terrible but a little lopsided.

Hope you are all enjoying some delicious new beers wherever you are.

    Santé!

Fruit/pepper sour. This was outstanding. Poor head retention/no lacing at all. Aromas and flavors of huge juicy/sour/tart/tangy kiwis, cucumber, fruit skin, jalapeno, lemon, lime, orange, peach, pear, apricot, mango, melon, red/green apple, white grape/wine, hay, straw, and grass; with moderate wheat, cracker, white bread dough malts; light peppercorn, lacto funk, and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate fruity/lactic tart/sourness, fruit tang, and light pepper spiciness on the finish. Medium carbonation, light-medium body, and fairly crisp finishing. Balanced creamy/grainy wheat, lactic acid, fruit tang, and light sticky spice in the mounthfeel. Light-moderate increasing acidic/tangy dryness; zero pucker. No warmth of 7.5%, minimal lingering pepper heat after the finish. Pretty refreshing, not overly lactic. Really loved this one. Awesome balance of juicy fruits, peppers, and Lacto complexity; with a great pale/wheat malt backbone against acidity. Minimal residual sweetness with crisp acidic/tangy dryness. Not overwhelming on peppers, just the right amount to be noticeable/flavorful. 4.15

Semi-hazy golden body; somewhat thin yet lasting head, dense and creamy. Very organic aroma; ripe citrus; old orange. Excellent grapefruit taste with a modicum of orange; bready; fine hop bitterness. Medium body; slightly tangy with some hop bite; semi-sweet mouthfeel.

This is what I would call a solid beer, new-ish (i.e., somewhat NEIPA) yet still having some fine traditional English IPA malt qualities and a decent west coast hop profile. There is nothing earth-shattering here, yet it has a rather strong hop bitterness quality that should probably appeal to many.
    ---------
Yes, indeedy...a fine midwest IPA. And I find myself getting a tad buzzed, so suffice it to say that I appreciate @eppCOS bringing this beer to my attention, and I also love just sitting at my work bench and watching the storm clouds and rain over me from the Rockies front range...this is a fine afternoon...

    Corsendonk Rousse

This is probably the Corsendonk attempt at an “ambre.” The ABV is quite high at 8% (and rather hidden in the drink). It’s a pale bronze that turns into a gorgeous amber with light behind it. The taste is like a sweet caramel apple. It has a syrupy candy quality. On first impression, this is easily my least favorite beer in their range (from what I’ve had). It doesn’t deliver anything along it’s sweet ride except the hidden alcohol. I have no idea what the name means. My only disappointing brew in my day so far. The beers in my previous posts really delivered.
