Thanks! Not quite sure how I've missed that on all of them.

Definitely understood on the helping flavors (esp. adjuncts) hold up longer - just wanted to make sure it wasn't a change. I keep most of my cans ~55 degrees since my desire to have Deep Woods beers (esp. Straight Jacket!) around exceeds my fridge space. Cracked a Deth by Cherries last night - still holding up great!

Oh nice, I thought they'd be left off given what a stacked taplist that already was.

I AM UNREASONABLY EXCITED ABOUT THIS, AND THAT IS WHY I AM TYPING IN ALL CAPS.

@Veliksta1 have you had a chance to taste either iteration yet? Any thoughts you can share?

Okay. I'll admit. I'm looking at excuse to take the day off now.

I'll most likely be "working remotely" from the taproom that afternoon.

Honey and Strawberry Jacket both sound delightful! If I wasn't already going to be in Europe that day, I'd definitely make the drive up. I hope it's a fabulous event!

We haven't gotten the honey yet, which is harvested from bees living on our roof. I did try a sample today with a different honey, to simulate the experience and it tasted awesome. Marty has been really jazzed about the Strawberry one, which surprised even him, as he's not been interested in messing with Straight Jacket in the past. I believe he used the word "bonkers", which he only pulls out once or twice a year.

Unfortunately no distro on Honey or Strawberry except a small amount of kegs for bars. Here's why...Straight Jacket is a blend of multiple barleywine brews, some leaning dry, others leaning sweet, then blended at the end to achieve exactly what the brewers are looking for each year. With that process, we're left with extra of one or the other and this past year we were left with a lot of extra of the dry component. Marty allowed it to continue aging for 6 addition months, not VSO levels, but more barrel character than regular Straight Jacket. The strawberry and honey then act as alternative agents to back-sweeten the drier Straight Jacket and result in a new way to present the barleywine in balance. We thought Summer made sense to try out these flavors and break up the off season.

Since this project came from what was left of last year's Straight Jacket, quantities will be on the small side, but we have quite an arsenal to share with you for the Fall, including through distro.

I look forward to next year when it comes full circle by using honey made from bees raised on honey jacket.

...and also when they force the next batch of strawberries to drink Strawberry Jacket while they grow.

Straight Jacket achieves total domination over all living things. Brings a whole new meaning to BiL.

@Veliksta1 you are a master of communication and an asset to the beer community. I award you 1 “You da man” proclamation.

But god damnit, this is a slippery slope. If I find pastry ingredients in my ROSJ I will hold you accountable for the tears I spill.

    Thanks! Tell my boss .

ROSJ has stayed true to form since 2012 and isn't changing. The brewers are very protective of that, as they should be. When we have extra barrels of something like these dry straight jacket barrels though, which we call "orphan" barrels, we'll continue to use them to try new things and keep it fun assuming the departure isn't too far from our traditional ethos.

I know everyone will be focused on the 2 cans being released, but the tap list is the main event.

Hopefully you forwarded my email on to them! Still getting compliments on the party from back in Jan. So thanks again.

And yeah, that's why I asked originally. I knew if you could give an answer on how they are tasting, it would be in depth. So thanks for that. And fine, I'll be the first to say it although I know others are thinking it. I want to drink your orphans. Very old special orphans....

Care to expand on V.S.O.R.? Sorry if everyone knows this, I did a quick search & didn't find anything...I'm guessing Very Special Old Ryeway?
