Mad Fox announces it is closing.

I have not been. I heard the food is not good. I heard they brew really good traditional styles. I feel like I missed out regardless.

I always liked their food and beer, though I confess I hadn’t been in awhile — still, a big loss. They will be missed.

PSA - just left Sherry’s and was surprised to see that they have a keg of triple crossing the proposition in their little growler fill section. They’re out of co2 for the next day or two so I didn’t grab a growler but they said it’s $23 for a 64oz or $13 for 32. A little steep but not as bad I was expecting from them and prob on par with pricing at brew shop on tc stuff.

Wow! Terrible news. Mad Fox is one of the best breweries in the area. Many styles, all of the great. This is a real loss. [Wipes Away Tear]

I wonder how old that keg is. Last time TC canned the proposition was 4+ months ago.
Doesn't mean that's definitely the last time they brewed it of course, this could be fresh, but I'd be curious.

Sad to hear. Their burgers were great. Also, I met up with @cjgiant there. Their Orange Whip IPA is a great beer, that I felt did not get enough love, but I did so many growlers filled with it. I will really miss the place as it was the closest Brewery.

I had the same thought but couldn't find the last time they brewed while on my phone. I looked at untappd and it looked like there was a surge in proposition check ins in late May so I figured that's when its from.

Yeah, saw the Mad Fox closing news this weekend, I think. I appreciated their lower ABV English ales and German offerings, but apparently not enough to keep them in business as a brewpub.

I thought the food was ok - generally a little heavy on the salt, though. Wonder if they’ll even try a reboot as a brewery/tasting room somewhere down the line.

Anyone aware of any caches of Duvel Triple Hop? Untappd no help in this regard (old check ins or restaurants, looking for some bottles to go)?

Seems like it's available at most TW in the area, not sure where you are or how far you're willing to go.

    Thank you!

I’m in Capitol Hill, but think I can make it to Arlington

FINAL UPDATE: I received their refund check today, and it did not even cover the pre-tax cost. That was a "penny wise, pound foolish" move on their part, at least if they wanted to keep me as a customer.

Yes they have regular and single but not triple hop.

I had the same experience with two or three of my bottles. When I had it fresh, it was still great. Really disappointed, because this and Triple Barrel were two of my favorite beers.

I'm glad to hear someone else had the same experience and that I wasn't crazy. I poured them out after tasting the sour in each of them.

I didn't ask for or get a refund. I understand your perspective, but I always assume barrel aged beers run the risk of infection. My new rule of thumb is try to drink most barrel aged beers as fresh as possible (of course that means I need to significantly slow down my purchases).

I'm wondering if there are any breweries in the area that are known for good milkshake IPAs? Staying with family in Aldie next month, and my wife and her friend that will be with us are huge milkshake fans. Went to Ocelot, Vanish and Solace last time we were in town, but that was before the milkshake craze took off. Would gladly revisit any of those places, but wondering if there is somewhere else we should be visiting? We'll be in the District a day or two, but also looking for options out by Aldie.

Aslin does them, though I can’t vouch for them. They just opened their new taproom in Alexandria. I’d check the taplist on their website first though because they don’t always have them. Your other best bet would be to go to a bar that might be to go to a bar like Churchkey that might have them.

Aslin's best known milkshakes are Grovestand and Sorbet. They just recently released both, so it's unlikely they'll be around a month from now. I agree that the bars owned by Neighborhood Restaurant Group, like Churchkey, Partisan, etc., are probably your best bet.

Thanks, guys. I'm over here in flyover country and we've got three breweries in state here that make outstanding milkshakes regularly, so I kind of assumed Northern Virginia would have like six. That's okay, I know from past experience that we'll have no problems finding excellent beer to drink.

Anyone have a prediction on the line at the bruery tomorrow? Onsale is at 11 and I need to be in PA for a birthday party by 2pm and am feeling uneasy about the situation.
