Ugh. That has to be on my list. I didn't even get to Cash, and my dog's name is Johnny Cash. This is probably my favorite from him.

I agree about Yesterday, The more I think about my list, the more I think Purple Rain should be on it. No idea what song to take off of it.

Love to see that you put a truckers song on yours. Mine has two original truckers songs that Isbell wrote on it.

Southern Tier Nu Juice, enjoyable enough and was worth trying. But for new beers to me this weekend definitely going with Stone Tropic of Thunder.

Good evening and happy New Beersnake Sunday, BAs. Pretty crazy weekend. Thing #2 has become quite the scooter pro overnight at the ripe old age of 2.5, and Thing #1 just graduated to big girl bike at 5 y.o. today. Proud moments for any parent, I would think. Terrifying too...

The Frau and I got the rare hike alone in today with a mid way out stop at a tavern at the top for a beer and a brat. Beat the heat and purged the stresses of everyday life yet again. Not a bad place to break:

So, got to meet up with @Beersnake1 again last night at a shared favorite establishment in Hair of the Dog where we quickly exchanged some updates in life's adventures, along with some beers of course. It's hot and this beer was calling me. I answered.

    Four Winds
    La Maison
    - Wild Saison

Quite the picturesque Saison. Unfiltered light orange in color with tiny streams of bubbles that fight to be seen. Above resides a stubborn off white froth never dropping to less than ¼ of an inch, and it leaves lacing in rows so I can count my sips.

At first, lemons by the bushel with a dash of lime. Peaches come through as it breathes. Only hints of crushed grain and sweet and tart apple skins. A very inviting and seamless blend of aromas.

Lemon and lime dominate in flavor as well. A little funk, a little sugary sweetness. A bit of vanilla and spice linger long after sips.

A very balanced beer. Sweet, tart, a dash of bitterness and just a touch of peppery spiciness. Bubbly but not spritzy, smooth and dry. Remarkably refreshing.

It's 91° today, and this couldn't be a more perfect beer for it. I would drink this by the truck load going into the night. Unfortunately, I only have one.

Huge thanks for the beer, Tim! Cheers!

After my official review, I gave La Maison a rating of 4.19 with an rDev of +1.0%.

Satsuma Orange sour. This was fantastic. Bit of a gusher. Great fluffy head retention/spotty soapy lacing. Aromas and flavors of big juicy/tart/tangy oranges, lemon, lime, citrus peel/zest, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, mango, melon, red/green apple, white grape/wine, peppercorn, hay, straw, and grass; with some wheat, cracker, white bready malts; lighter notes of leathery/musty/lacto funk, white wine vinegar, and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate fruity/lactic tart/sourness, citrus tang, and Brett/oak tannin spiciness on the finish. Medium-plus carbonation, light-medium body, and fairly crisp finishing. Balanced bready/grainy wheat, lactic acid, fruit tang, and some oak tannins in the mouthfeel. Light-moderate increasing acidic/tangy dryness; no pucker/astringency. Refreshingly smooth, not overly lactic, zero warming 6.2%. Fantastic balance of super juicy/vibrant oranges and Brett/Bacteria complexity; with great oak presence and pale/wheat malts against acidity. Minimal residual sweetness with crisp acidic/tangy dryness. Another easy winner. They have been putting out a lot of impressive sours/saisons. 4.25

    A new-to-me blend of Kriek from 3F.
    Blend No. 33.
    ABV 5.7%.
    Bottling Date:
    14 JUN 2017.
    Best Before:
    26 OCT 2037.

Moderate pour yields a 1/2 inch light pink head over a dark pink body with scant lacing. Nose of cherry, a bit of funk, and lemon. Taste mirrors nose extremely well with a nice tart finish that I look for in any Kriek. Nice feel and overall, a really nice example of the style. Buy it if you find it. Cheers!!!!

    Hello New Beer Sunday!!!

74 hours of work done for the week, and I can rest up to get ready for a more normal 60 something work week starting tomorrow.

I'm so looking forward to September when the restaurant is going to be closed on Sundays, and I finally get a day off. I need it.

    Ok, to @lordofthewiens 's topic:

I don't know if I can do a top 10 of songs. There's just too much good out there for me to pick. I know there will be some from Uncle Ted there. There will have to be Edgar Winter's Frankenstein in the mix. The Highwayman have to have a mention. Johnny Cash has a foothold. AC/DC is also in the mix.

Just too much to chose from that I really like to come up with a top 10.

Ok, beer, and it's much needed after 11 hours at work today.

    Montucky Cold Snack.

This beer is billed as the "Unofficial beer of Montana".

Very unofficial because it's brewed in Wisconsin. Heck, it's brewed in a different time zone several states away from the state it says it's the unofficial beer of. That's just not right in my book. It would be like saying something brewed at Summit Brewing in St. Paul Minnesota is the unofficial beer of Virginia.

Ok, enough ranting. What is the beer like?

Well, it's an AAL. Some AALs are better than others. This is malty, and just a hint of skunk. Nothing special, to be honest. It's a lower end of the AAL, but nott he worst I've had, but not the best.

    Review:

    2.97/5 rDev -1.7%
    look: 3.5 | smell: 2.75 | taste: 3 | feel: 3 | overall: 3

Pours a clear golden color. 2 finger white head. The head retention is poor. No lacing on the glass.
The nose is a somewhat skunky malt. Some AALs have a pleasing malt, but this isn't too pleasing.
Taste - Taste is slightly better than the aroma. It's a malty beer, somewhat sweet. There's a slight skunk, but a lot less than the nose let on.
    Body - light. Slightly watery.
It's an AAL. Some are better than others. This is not the best at all, but not the worst.

Also - note - this is brewed in Wisconsin, not Montana. If you're looking for your Montana check, pass on this.

I will have one more beer before I'm done, and, hopefully, it will be better than this one.

    New Beer Closer...
    The review:
750mL bottle poured into a Ommegang signature glass at fridge temp 10.7% ABV. The beer pours hazy medium brown with some yeast sediment even on a gentle pour. The head is light khaki in color and recedes to a pencil thin ring and island of tiny bubbles. The aroma is burnt sugar caramel, oak and a bit of dark fruit. The taste is more burnt sugar caramel along with earthy hops, vanilla and a touch of alcohol. Moderate bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation and a mostly dry finish. Overall, good. An unusual example of a "British" barleywine. Almost a hybrid with the American variety. Probably should not have left it in my cellar fridge for a year. Drink'em if you got em.

Cheers all and enjoy the new beer in your glass tonight!

Amazing sour! Fantastic lasting fluffy head retention/thick foamy lacing. Aromas and flavors of huge juicy/tart/tangy pink guava, fruit skin/seeds, lemon, lime, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, honeydew melon, blueberry, citrus peel/zest, tequila, toasted oak, peppercorn, hay, straw, and grass; with moderate agave, wheat, cracker, white bread dough malts; lighter notes of bourbon, oaken vanilla, leathery/musty/lacto funk, white wine vinegar, and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate fruity/lactic tart/sourness, fruit tang, and yeast/oak tannin spiciness on the finish. Medium-plus carbonation, medium body, and fairly crisp finishing. Balanced creamy/grainy wheat, lactic acid, fruit tang/tannins in the mouthfeel. Light-moderate increasing acidic/tangy/tannic dryness; zero pucker/astringency. Super smooth, nicely soft, not overly lactic, minimal warming 7.4%. Amazing balance of super juicy/vibrant Guava/Mosaic hop and Brett/Bacteria complexity; with great Tequila barrel presence and pale/wheat malts against acidity. One of their best beers I've had. Loved the last one they put in a Tequila Barrel - Facilitated Adaptation; this is even better than that. 4.4

Ok, well I screwed that up royally....exceeded the edit window.

There's no way I can answer the question of the day. Music has been central to our family life for multiple generations. My wife and I are brass players, both my kids play horns, all four of us sing. Handhelds. There are more horns in my house than I can remember...so music's a big deal. My training was more classical, but I haven't let that interfere...

I think it is similar to how I feel about beer. I don't care who made it, what style of is or might be, or where it came from. Good is good and that's defined by my palate. I don't care what genre a song us, who performs it or where, good is good and it is defined by my ears and the effect the music has. I don't know what goes beyond eclectic...but that's my musical taste. Uptown Funk makes me happy, I like it. I dig singing English madrigals pad much as modern gospel. I argue with "musicians" who say rap and hip hop are not valid art forms.

So...where I started, as a brass player, Mahler's 2nd, especially this passage is humbling and awe inspiring:

    Wait...what???

This tune can repeat as much as it wants...

Driven myself nuts trying to dissect the harmonies in this one. At one point, I can pick ten to twelve notes...

Ok, back to beer after an over long post...

Allagash Brightline is a saison brewed with black currant. It pours extraordinarily clear, kind of a purple tinted golden color. I swear it had 3/4 if an inch of foam, so you can guess how long it lasted.

The smell is fruity, bright, tea-like, restrained on the esters. Mildly sweet, vague berry smell.

The taste follows, opening with mild acidity and a bit of a tannin bite, ever so slight. The berry fruity side comes in, black currant if you say so as it is a bit vague. Tea notes are present, which I find associates pretty often with berries. The Belgian esters fly above this, not super strong and seemingly tempered a bit by the fruit.

The feel is light, drying, refreshing. Clean with minimal lingering aftertaste. Not super carbonated, yet lively enough.

I like this beer, I can dance to it. I think it should be landing around 3.8. It is a bit different, I dig the flavor and feel. I think it is executed well because it could have been an overblown mess, so kudos for restraint.

Ok, back for beer #2, and the final one. The bottle says that this is the unofficial beer of Mongolia.

Ok, I kid. It is Don De Dieu from Unibroue Brewing.

This beer was one hell of a gusher. I poured a small part of the bottle into my glass, and it was foaming over the top, and on to my carpet. That I wasn't expecting, or else I would have used a stein. I wasn't aggressive with the pour either. It took quite a while to get it all into the glass from the bottle, minus what spilled. It does have a wheat flavor in this beer, that was pleasing - banana and cloves.

It's also hard to tell that it's a 9% beer.

    Review:

    3.9/5 rDev -6.5%
    look: 3.75 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 3.75 | feel: 4 | overall: 3.75

My bottle was a foam bomb. I hardly poured any, and it was gushing over the top. I wish i would have had a big stein or something to contain it. What I can see of the beer, it pours a somewhat hazy golden color. The head is white, insane, and long lasting. It will take a long time to get everything from the bottle into the glass.
The nose is a sweet, somewhat fruity, malty, semi wild aroma. Some spices in the aroma, can't say which ones, though. Pleasing aroma.
Taste - There's a wheat component to this beer. I do get the banana and some cloves. I also get a bit of a slightly wild flavor, with just a slight bitterness to it.
Body is decent. There's a bit of a pop in my throat from it that is pleasing.
Very interesting beer. It was one hell of a gusher, and that wasn't fun. Everything else makes up for it.

This will be it for tonight. I'm tired as hell, and need to get some sleep tonight, to get ready for the next work week. See you all throughout the week, and, of course, here in New Beer Sunday.

Taste follows really tasty but exactly what the nose would have you expect, but really balanced and tasty. 4.25

Mouthfeel is bigger than average, gentle soft carbonation, sticky but not dry, and at 8% very approachable.4.5

Had a long day with the kids, wife and father-in-law. By long I mean it was good and a lot of memories made on all fronts. Now time to relax for a (new) beer or two.

Stopped by a local place in Grand Rapids that regularly carries Transient and picked up this along with a few others.

16 ounce can, no date seen. Poured into tulip glass.
Pours a beet red, with a fizzy short lived head. Opaque body.
Aromas of raspberries and blackberries, lemon, lactic acid.
Taste follows. Unripe berry, lemon curd, blueberry skins, tannins, slight earthiness. Sweetness followed by a light tart bite.
For a Berliner with a light abv this one has a “thick” body. Thick is subjective here but has a nice feel.
Overall, big and juicy, slightly tart and tasty.

Welcome Back to Take Your Pils With A New Beer, We're Heading to Media, PA This Sunday (Week 752)!

Take Your Pils With A New Beer, We're Heading to Media, PA This Sunday (Week 752)!, turned out to be quite the day! I really thought, at the outset, that both Sterling Pig & 2SP were in Media, PA. I flitted between the two all day with the penultimate CANming as I ate the pig, beginning with its Snuffler! It seems fitting that I wrap up (for now) with an AIIPA from 2SP. After this, I still have a number of 2SP beers to drink, review & rate, but I am running low on stamina.

The day CANtinued where we left off with:

Pours a bright rose with a mild effervescence. Little to no head.

    Sour cherry nose, light funk.

Bright. Mildly tart cherry. Montmorency to be sure. Subtle vanilla in the background. I’m even picking up a little cinnamon candy on the swallow. Oak.

    Lighter body, lightly effervescent.

This is a top notch wild beer from one of the more consistent makers in the province. Would enjoy again without a doubt.

    Cheers.

...To add to the earlier list, I’ve been listening to Graham Bond when I get the rare chance. ‘Sound of ‘65’ is certainly one of the great albums of the 1960s. His work in Ginger Baker’s Air Force is great too and their version of Sunshine of My Love is stellar. Also, I love Julie Driscoll and Brian Auger Trinity’s version of Season of the Witch. I listen to that a lot when I can. And one last one... I revisit some of the Stanley Turrentine albums from the early 70s that I have from time to time when I actually have a chance to fire up the turntable. I can’t pick a song though...
