It seems that unnecessarily adding fruit or extra hops to a “Kölsch” is the new thing....

Yes, it is distributed but it is draft only.

I purchased my second 6-pack of the 'new' Prima Pils today and I drank one as I watched the Phillies beat the Pirates. The 'new' Prima Pils is good (as was the 'old' Prima Pils) but the Braumeister Pils is superior to both for my palate.

There are many Pilsners available in SEPA. There are the 'old school' versions from Stoudts, Sly Fox, and others and many, many versions from the newer breweries of Root Down, Sterling Pig, 2SP, Neshaminy Creek. Workhorse, Love City (and I could go on and on and...).

Sounds like Maryland is lacking here?

    Cheers!

To my knowledge it's never been packaged and only available at the brewpubs.

Now what I'd like to know is it still changed periodically? Once upon a time the hops were switched every few months or so.

Also, if you can get Sly Fox Pikeland Pils give it a try. It's a go-to pilsner for me.

Yeah we are lacking, but locally I get Brewer's Alley Czechmate which is very solid so I'm not completed void. We get Sly Fox but that one didn't do much for me. From your list Neshaminy Creek is distributed down here and I'll look for it and give it a try. Oh there is a brewery called Bookeville Farms in MD that makes one called "Philsner" that I found very solid. However its 4pack / 16oz cans for $13-$15 and just not interested in my money going towards that.

Sly Fox makes a great Pils, my beach beer this year. In this terrible heat I definitely enjoyed the lower abv vs any kind of ipa.

I see more Pilsners than ever. Seems like every trendy hazeboi brewery in New England is jumping on the trend. It helps that you can get Instagram likes of slow poured Pilsners, but I see them everywhere.

Von Trapp last month at the brewery was underwhelming. I 've been in Germany each of the last 5 years. I used to live there. Not impressed with von Trapp.

In Chicago this has been the year of the helles lager. Much more small batch helles, or beers simply labels “lager”

It feels like breweries around here are starting their attempt at reminding people what real beer tastes like.

If only a great New England style Pilsner would emerge and help all the New England pilsner breweries thrive and grow to greatness.

    Yup, same here.

I have a new "Czech-style Pilsner" from Lamplighter in my fridge right now. It's ok, definitely more "American Czech-style Pilsner".

But overall I'm welcoming these breweries giving pale lagers a shot. I doubt all of them are putting in the extra effort that Chris Lohring at Notch does, but some that are coming out are decent.

There’s some of the American style Pils here too , and they’ve universally have been very good. I wouldn’t confuse them with PA, they’re not there... yet. I had one that used Mosaic hops which I found interesting from the typical German hops.

To me Prima was too hoppy so this sounds like just what I'm looking for. Sadly it's brew pub only :frowning2:

I find that there are way more random pale lagers on the market. Some are good, some aren't. Not sure if it's a nationwide thing or just in CO, but most aren't actually calling their pale lager a pilsner. I suspect some of it relates to Bierstadt being in town, but you also have places like Founders and Firestone doing the same thing.

This has come up a few times already but I'd just like to confirm for everyone that New England's pilsner scene is just phenomenally good right now.

Two more breweries technically distributed to my area, but not on any shelf.

I lived there too way back when and visited twice over the past 12-15 years.
I agree they don't match up compared to a fresh from the source German. However, they do hold up well when comparing European style pilsners brewed by American breweries. VT bills theirs as a Bohemian pilsner, not german, and it's a pretty good representation of that style.

Between the wife and I, we had samplers of the range of lagers. The light ones were all had an off flavor in the finish. The Dunkel and Bock were OK. My thinking is their water chemistry was off.
