I had to do a double-take, but yep. Before Labor Day.

An Octoberfest during the State Fair, and in August - did Badger Hill go stupid all of a sudden? I’m guessing all 8 of the people who would actually go to this will have a blast.

    WTF

@Bravak ... You do know the real Oktoberfest in Munich is mostly in Sept, right?

Yep, usually the latter part of September leading into first weekend in October. Been there probably 15 times. It’s brings in the fall season.

Not a stop on the way back from a splash pad during summer.

Sooo... 3 weeks early is a big deal for you? Or is it just the sound of "August" instead of waiting one more day for "September"?

An Oktoberfest in August seems like a desperate reach to be different. Maybe I’m a traditionalist in my old age, but it just strikes me as weird.

Myself and a core group of friends used to all be Badger Hill fans, but they don’t make the styles or beers we so enjoyed anymore, and none of us go there these days for that reason. So maybe I’m just subconsciously bitter.

Zwickels, lagers in general, saisons and awesome English styles have been supplanted by infusions, hop chasing and bad attempts at trendy styles. But when you have to chase consumer trends (I’m a dinosaur), I guess that’s what happens.

Old owners and head brewer are gone about the same time BH morphed into a trend chaser.

Actually, many of my friends go to Shakopee Brewhall because they have a better variety of styles.

Understood. And, while I was never a big customer of theirs, I'm less of one now. But, like you, I guess I'm not in their target demo...

I was not aware, though, of ownership / brewer changes.

It's not just them, I can order Pumking as of last week. Stuff just keeps coming out earlier and earlier. I'm still surprised that Summer Shandy isn't a year round beer by now. I think that came out in April.

Just to clarify (my OP isn’t exactly clear), I was originally talking about a brewery holding an Oktoberfest festival in August.

But the beer release thing, it’s so weird now, it’s almost irrelevant to tie anything to a season I guess.

Hopefully my family will start holding Christmas in October. That would be awesome.

On the list of things to be annoyed about, this one falls pretty far low on the list.

New Glarus Staghorn Oktoberfest beer should be hitting the shelves soon, and I, for 1, cannot wait.

The OP was talking about an Oktoberfest festival being held in August. Why are people posting about beers being released?

'cause taking threads off topic is what we do here.... You know that!!

(Besides, going from Okto festivals to Okto beers is pretty much ON topic compared with some of the rabbit trails we go down...) :sunglasses:

This Bravak guy is a touchy son of a bitch, but I will agree with him here. What the hell is with all this Oktoberfest stuff happening already, it's friggin July!

It's also Labor Day weekend and when they have their scheduled 5K run through the MN Brewery Running series. I'm guessing they're looking at it as a way to maximize the number of people for an event. Is it a stretch for that early of an Oktoberfest festival? Sure. It's also smart utilization of resources and marketing for the cards you got dealt.
