Does the BlackBerry say brewed in 2010? Am I reading that right?

Yep. Must be a blend from the O.G. batch and a batch from 2017.

Jesus, Fruited Sour? I've been wanting to try that forever.

I'm accidentally going to be in New Glarus that weekend, is there anything to know about these events, or should I just show up at like 7 am Friday morning (or do they typically have leftovers)?

Wild Peach was the last one to sell out day of. You should be safe.

Or do you think it's just stating that the beer was brewed in 2010 and 2017, rather than a blend of the two?

Well the original Sour Fruit (VSB, Very Sour Blackberry) was brewed in 2010 so it would make sense to me that some of the original batch is blended in. Pure speculation though.

Since I can't make it down for the release, I'll leave it to you to get the blend/no-blend info from Dan or Deb.

Wow, didnt notice that until coming to this thread. As Vitacca said it could be partial blend with OG batch but man I findt that hard to believe that was kept around for 8 years...sitting in barrels?! But what the hell do I know. If it is saying this is essentially batch 2 VSB -and just that the first was in fact brewed in '10- means this is literally the same beer again, that's not a bad thing whatsoever (I never got to try VSB). Anyway...intriguing. Questions will be asked that day if we dont have an answer before then!

I don’t think “Fruited Sour” is a blend of VSB and new lambic. I just think they are making a reference to the first batch. Why they changed the name I don’t know. It seems clear this is the same beer, ideologically, as VSB was initially. New Glarus responded to an Instagram comment asking if this was close to VSB, saying “similar lambic style with the same blackberry fruit should make 2013 reminiscent of 2019”

I mean, I guess it could have been inoculated with bottles from the first batch (like Allagash FV13)but I don’t really see the need for it other than romanticism. And if that were the case, New Glarus would probably have talked talk about it.

Maybe VSB is not blended in it (as in the final product), but I bet the beer that was used to make VSB is blended into it (hence the 2010 brew date, same as VSB). I would assume they did not label this as VSB because it is not the same beer. A majority of this beer is likely from the 2017 brew date, which would have been after they started using the coolship, making that 2017 "batch" slightly different than the 2010 "batch". I expect this to be similar to VSB, but not the same.

NG did not label the 2013 beer VSB either. In this thread, there is mention that Dan referred to the 2013 release as 'Sour Blackberry', which is what is referenced on this year's label interestingly. It would possibly seem in Dan's eyes that there was a 2013 Sour Blackberry and this is 2019 Sour Blackberry.

True, I guess by "label this as VSB" I really meant "refer to it as VSB". IIRC, the term VSB came from the New Glarus facebook posts about the release and I believe they originally called it "Very Very Sour Blackberry" then dropped a "very" by the time of the release. I could be wrong though, that was quite awhile ago lol

I think that's true, because I missed the release and then was very confused later on when I couldn't find info on "very very sour blackberry."

I haven't been up on release day since the one with all of the fighting. Do they still start selling bottles earlier than 10? Sounds like line sharing still happens? Is that correct? Don't want to show up empty handed. Also, if anyone is planning on being there Friday morning that has an extra bottle of R&D Summer Sour that wants to do a swap that would be great. I failed on getting one. Have Afterthought, Hill Farmstead saisons, and/or other stuff. PM me.
