I just saw several cases of Ayinger Oktoberfest 4-packs at a local grocery store.

I haven't seen straight packs of Sam's Oktoberfest yet (shelves are still heavy with Summer Ale, which I never did get around to trying), but the Fall Pack has dropped. It's Boston Lager, Sam's '76, Oktoberfest, and something called Kosmic Sour. (Yep, no pumpkin this year.)

Exactly. You really can't blame brewers for releasing Oktoberfests this early. I would like to see the sales figures by month for Oktoberfests. I would put money on them declining in sales after the month of October. Just like how few people buy pumpkin beers after October 31st or Christmas beers after December 25th.

You mean like Vienna Lager?

The upside is that it’s a fresh as any Oktoberfest beer will ever be.

That would mean a January bottling date I think. That doesn’t make sense.

I THINK I had it this year? I don’t really remember to be honest.

But the link below details the changes.

    Kosmic Sour?

What the heck does that have to do with fall?

I’d go a step further and like to see sales after September.

He had a case. It was on sale so I bought a 6. Wasn't bad, but tasted thin and tired if you know what I mean. They were all gone when I went back today. Does Spaten brew it year round?

I hear ya! My daughter is in Raleigh and she said it has been unbearable. Heat index over 105.

It’s a bit better the last few days, but the heat indexes pushed 110 in some spots too. Just brutal heat, humid as hell too.

Are the bugs crawling there, too? My friend from the Netherlands says its the hottest summer they've had in fifty years

The heat in Europe has been worse than here, France, Italy hitting 115 degrees. And they don’t like AC like we like AC, nor do they like ice and really cold drinks like we do here. I’d die, my brother was in Rome and said it sucked badly.

I'm a little disappointed. I love a good sour, but that seems like something that should've gone in the summer pack.

I saw Southern Tier's Imperial Pumpkin ale on prominent display today at the local liquor store, and considering it is summer in Florida, this is very strange.

Are you comparing this with other Oktos, or Spaten from years past? I ask because Spaten Okto is my favorite Amber Märzen and has been for many years. I admit that it hasn't always been stellar, but I can see people thinking it's "thin" compared with some Ami Oktos like Sam Adams.
They do, but it's not available everywhere (thank your local distro).

Always glad to see fall beers start to show up because it means fall (my favorite season) is soon to come!

Also, it's amusing to think back to not that many years ago when pumpkin ales were considered about the most gimmicky style of beer there was. Now that every other beer is a pastry stout, milkshake IPA, or some cereal-themed abomination, a pumpkin ale seems very tame.

The Kosmic Sour isn't even on SA's website yet, nor is it here on BA or on RateBeer. There are quite a few entries for it already on Untappd, but since I don't have an Untappd account I can't see any details.

I did buy the pack, because the other three beers are pretty tasty for what they are. I'll probably try the sour on Monday, because I like to drink my stash of big beers on the weekend when I'm not so tired from work that they put me right to sleep...

Why don't you have an Untappd account? Also, Kosmic Sour is listed as an American Wild Ale and has a rating of 3.22 as of right now on Untappd.
