born and raised in michigan i don't think any ipa is the beer that best represents that state. I would go with Bells Best Brown or maybe Founders Backwood Bastard

Bells Brown is alright for me, their Octoberfest is a fantastic fall beer. Considering sales have helped this popularity grow us into the great beer state. As for Backwoods Bastard, KBS is such a superior beer when it comes to my tastebuds.

I enjoy them both. Summerfest is an outstanding Lager.

Ok, I will try them out then. SN is always a solid choice in any season, then again it is always a craft beer that has kind of like Founders and Bells.

I think I recall hating Tropical Torpedo.

Summerfest is one of my favorites, from any brewery.

I am going to take a risk, after trying the Torpedo IPA and loving the Pale Ale, these other two cannot be disappointing. What made you dislike Tropical Torpedo?

If I remember correctly, it was nothing like Torpedo or the Pale Ale.

I didn't like the "Tropical" part, which was overwhelming and made the beer taste muddled.

again I'm not talking about best selling or best tasting beer. I'm talking about the beer that most captures the spirit/nature of the state. I can definitely see an argument for kbs or cbs, and a festbier is a great proposal too. I was actually thinking about Short's ESB as one that could fit the bill. All this makes me realize how much fall/winter is the defining seasons of michigan for me.
I could see a case for Oberon as well, the hubub it still manages to elicit every year sure demonstrates how much michiganders love the return of the summer sun

Surly Furious here in Minnesota. Honorable mention goes to Summit EPA, the flagship beer of Minny's first craft brewery.

As far as my favorite beer from Michigan and all time would be Under the Kilt by Dragonmead, as much as I pose to be an M43 fan boy, which perfectly embodies that hazy Michigan Saturday summer afternoon. Watching the Tigers, grilling and cranking some 94.7!

You could even phase it in seasons and rich historical contexts which is why Stroh's or Altes are some very straong suggestions. As far as catching the spirit of the state. KBS is kind of there, that would be a good winter one, Bell's winter white is underrated IMHO for a winter beer. Oberon is the quintessential summer beer here, that goes without question nowadays. Two Hearted certainly embodies Michigan in almost every season, that is hard to argue with. I never had Short's ESB. I am thinking of popularity and accessibility though, coupled with our rich history we have here, Strohs and Altes beat out Two Hearted for me.

Fremont's Universal Pale Ale. Not my favorite of theirs, but definitely a standby made from all locally sourced ingredients (rarer than you might think) from the most iconic brewery in the state IMO.

Agree. SweetWater 420 or Tropicalia. Hard to pick. One represents the old the other the new.

Arkansas has many great beers, so I cannot single one out. I will give you my list of favorites:
    1. Ozark IPA
    2. Bike Rack Golden Ale
    3. Ozark Pale Ale
    4. Ozark Cream Stout
    5. Core Warthog Munich Helles
    6. Saddlebock Dirty Blonde
    7. Ivorybill English Dark Mild
This list is not a ranking of these beers and the list changes from time to time should be.

Having grown up in Michigan, summer is the best season and anticipated. Although fall is also beautiful. I think Oberon best captures the light, fun feeling of summers in Michigan. Founders Dirty Bastard probably captures the other nine months pretty well.

I think Ozark BDCS best captures Arkansas. I never would have thought I'd end up here. But once I got here I found it's surprisingly nice and very beautiful. I think that's like BDCS - no one expects much from an Arkansas beer and then BDCS surprises them with it's depth, character, and beauty.

I live in NW Arkansas and we have around a dozen breweries. Our breweries are better than many in other parts of the country. We are truly blessed.
