Phase Three Brewing (2019)

TD is good, nothing crazy a solid 4.0 for the style. people are overhyping the hell out of it on social media. great mouthfeel. very similar to what hopbutcher puts out.

all these milkshakes are starting to blend together.

 

Glad to hear I’m not the only one that has this sick obsession. I’d be afraid to see the data on how much bullshit I’ve read on that app

 

I liked it a little more than a 4 (not that that matters), but I agree with you otherwise. To play devil's advocate I'd argue that the fact that it's similar to HB (who I think is on the better end of the milkshakes around here) is a plus, and you're right about the mouthfeel.

I definitely think it's worth checking out if you're a fan of milkshake IPAs, but it's nothing earth-shattering, and if you don't like them, you probably won't like this at all. And I swear the lactose makes me feel like shit every time...

 

yeah man, ive noticed the same thing after drinking lactose beers. the morning shits are always the worst too.

 

Usually my poor Uber Eats choices when I'm drunk supersede any problems caused by beer ingredients...

 

I'm glad to read the reviews on TD because when I drank my first can on Wednesday night it was straight trash, I am not even being dramatic it literally tasted like garbage. I didn't even finish it and ended up drain pouring it. I was convinced it was a bad can and didn't even bother rating it. So this gives me hopes that when I crack one tonight it tastes better!

I’m glad I wasn’t the only one. My initial sip was great. Everything after that left an aftertaste reminiscent to hotdog water.

 

Having 2nd thoughts about this, I have way too much good beer in my fridge right now. Even thinking about missing the Equilibrium release tomorrow

Cracked a 2nd can and it’s a completely different beer. I definitely had a bad can or something that first time.

Def think this is one of their better offerings!

 

Just opened my first can and this is the least favorite milkshake I've had, but I'm generally not a huge fan of the style though have enjoyed every HB. I had high hopes as weldwerks fan. I think the balance is way off. The coconut overpowers everything, and I love coconut. Hoping this improves overtime.
Side note, I had aspect ratio yesterday and that was great. My favorite of theirs so far.

 

I actually like the flavor of DT. I've enjoyed the Sabro beers I've had and the dankness of Mosaic pairs nicely in this, but it's ultimately way too sweet for me. This thing could rest in a bourbon barrel for 12-18 months and develop into a near perfect BA White Stout. I enjoyed the first 8oz then diminishing returns started to compound like a 3am China trade war tweet. Ironically, I recently received a Weldwerks Pina Colada milkshake as an extra in a trade, so I'm curious to taste it this weekend to see where the beetus originated in this collab.

 

Had an Aspect Ratio the other night. For me it was one of those hazy IPAs that has incredible aroma the moment you pop the can, mouthfeel was fine, but the taste just fell flat and didn't go anywhere. Thought it was fine, but kinda boring.

To be fair my untappd scale is fucked up as well. A 3.75 to me is basically a beer I would drink again, but I'm not blown away by it.

 

Hopefully you didn't bother going. i showed up at 9:30 and there was already 100+ in line. Just turned around and went home. Not waiting in line that long to miss out on the two beers that I wanted from the list.

 

Yeah, a 3.75 for me is "very average" in terms of what I drink (4 is "good," 4.25 is "pretty good" and anything above that is "great"). Does it make sense numerically? No. But I also am relatively picky about what I drink (and even pickier about what I put on Untappd), so I suppose it makes sense from that perspective. But if I'm rating a beer 3.75 on Untappd, it means I was definitely not impressed.

For reference, I gave Low Ceilings and Tropical District a 4.25.

 

In this case though, would you give a beer that you were "not a fan" of a 3.75? I took his review as he thought the beer sucked, and is no longer going to get the full allotment because of that.

Either way, how this guy rated Vlad Nea on Untappd isn't going to make me lose sleep.
