Pemberton Farms had at least a few 4-packs left this evening.

Enjoying one now. It’s nice to have a galaxy-focused beer without that peanut shell aroma that’s unfortunately become the hallmark of my favorite hop recently,

Thanks for the tip! I'll swing by there after work today since I drive right by.

I actually checked there this past Sunday but they didn't have it. I wonder if Somerville/Cambridge just received it this week.

    I haven't noticed that with Galaxy myself...hopefully I don't now!

I think I know the flavor you are referring to. I just had Pipeworks Infinite Galaxy on tap and tasted that. I was not a fan.
That being said, I didn't get that at all from the Galaxy Sue. I thought it was crisp and clean with a nice bitter middle.
Do you think it is a galaxy specific flavor?

Thanks for the reply, and no not at all. I haven't recognized any rhyme or reason to when I pick up that flavor actually, but I also don't pay much specific attention to which hop I'm drinking in terms of tracking patterns.

Based on a couple different threads here I appear to be an outlier on this one. I'm going to pay more attention going forward to whether Galaxy might have a weird relationship with my palate.

Thanks, picked some up this afternoon!

If anyone else is looking, I left a 4 pack for ya...

It might have been there on Sunday when I looked too. They were hidden behind another of Toppling Goliath's offerings. So you had to go into the cooler to find Galaxy Pseudo Sue.

There were also a lot of other goodies, but I'll head to the liquor store again tomorrow to pick up more beer.

One of those goodies was the first Oktoberfest I've seen this season...August 1st. Jack's Abby Copper Legend.

If I see it again tomorrow I'll definitely grab it. IT HAS BEGUN...

Snagged some Sierra Nevada Oktoberfest today. Might have one soon...hey, it's not 90 anymore.

Looks like 4 packs of Surly's Todd the Axe Man have popped in a few places. Wonder if this is a sign of distro to come?

I was wondering the same thing, because I don't think I'm going to be able to grab any this time. But the Redstone tweet seems to say otherwise... I guess never say never?

Surly is part of this guest brewer program that Atlantic Distributing is doing. Sweet Life Brewing was last month, Surly is this month. Just to pulse the market sadly!

Sierra Nevada's Oktoberfest collab with Bitburger is solid. Been giving it an aggressive pour and letting it warm just a hair before drinking. Delicious and goes down easy. $13.49/12-pack at Burlington Wegmans.

Also, can't remember where/when I got it, but Barrel Aged Accident at Hubbard's Cave is fantastic. Would get again.

Unfortunately, two bottles in, I wasn't a fan.

Body isn't right for an amber Oktoberfest, a bit too dry/crisp. The bready malts aren't up to snuff, in this style they should be there in spades. And there's this odd sour/tart note that shows up, but does taper off a bit as the beer warms.

I have four more to try before I make a final judgement, but this one was a miss for me. Not even remotely close to the imports.

Then again, I haven't really liked any of the collaborations, except last year's. But even last year's was middle of the pack for me.

I haven't really liked any of the sierra oktoberfest collabs. Pretty much given up on them. I continue to be surprised that they can't make a good one. But I also think collabs in any beer are rarely great - they too often seem like a compromise.

I buy them every year because I REALLY want to like them. I have such a high respect for Sierra Nevada’s lager game I can’t help but try them.

Oh well, there’s no shortage of Oktoberfests out there.

I did find it a little too dry/crisp as well, the hard pour and letting it warm a bit before drinking helps with that. Although I tend to find domestic oktoberfests skew the opposite direction, too cloying and heavy. For me, it was bready and didn’t find any tart/sour notes. But yes, doesn’t beat out Ayinger, my favorite of the imported amber Oktos, although given the pricing on those, they are more of a treat rather than a go-to.

Grabbed some Axe Man at Yankee Norwood. Had this beer years ago so virtually no memory of it these days... Man is it malty. Could be a change in my taste buds since straying away from West Coast style IPAs. Though I’m still enjoying Pliny, Two Hearted, Celebration and the like... Worth noting I bought it warm and tossed it in the freezer for an hour. Also the can date was early July, but I’d hope that it wouldn’t become a malty mess in just a month. Perhaps the second can will be better...

    An hour!?

    And it wasn't frozen?

It was probably about 40-45 degrees. Doesn't it take about 3-4 hours to make regular ice cubes in most freezers? Do you have a cryo chamber at home? I've wanted to try one.

I feel like I've frozen cans of soda in the freezer in under an hour, maybe I'm wrong.

Not that this website seems all that scientific, but it seems to depend on the alcohol content, which makes sense.

    https://www.crackacoldone.net/does-beer-freeze/

How long does it take for beer to freeze? That depends on the alcohol content in the beer. Low-content beer can freeze in 1 hour or less. High-content beer could take 4-6 hours to freeze.

Also depends on the temperature of the beer going into the freezer (from the fridge and already around 40 degrees or starting from room temp).
