Maybe it was overflow from the fill and the carbonation? It was their growlers. They’ve lost about an inch from the top, which I’ve never had happen with screw top growlers. I stored them vertically as much as I could, and they were vertical when I noticed the slow leakage at the brewery, but they were at a slight angle in my car for the drive back. It’s not a huge loss, I’ve just never used flip top growlers so I don’t know if that’s common.

I've never had issues with flip top growlers personally.

A couple years ago I got 4 750s of Earl when it was available after a long hiatus. The last one was opened after about a year in the fridge. There was a strong carbonation "pop" while opening and the beer was carbed just as much as it was when fresh (to my surprise). I do not think a twist top would hold the carbonation as well as a swing top with a rubber gasket as the seal

I actually liked Earl more after the hops faded a bit. I'll likely do the same thing next time it's available whether that's in a bottle or growler

Never seen that happen with flip tops, were they new or did you bring them? The rubber dries out eventually, but a long time.

Thanks. Strange. I’d say it’s uncommon in my experience. Wonder if it was a seal issue, rubber not completely flush to glass, etc.

Otherwise, once those “snap” shut, they’re gold imo. Like @7irondave said, I’d trust a swing top over any screw top for maintaining beer quality.

@jhavs unless I misunderstood @gclaw4444 reply, they were Hill glass that he purchased there. I agree with you. Never had it happen before and deterioration would take a long time coinciding with improper care/handling.

If I lived in Ma., I'd be there every week. I live almost 8 hours away and try to get there monthly.

Hey guys - heading up to HF in September for the first time in a couple years, so a couple of newbie questions. What are the limits usually on things like Double Galaxy cans? Is there still a 2 drink per person limit at the bar?.

Limits on cans and bottles will be posted on the retail wall. The Double Nelson batch from June was the last can I recall having a limit in recent memory and that was a case per person.

Unsure on the status of the drink limit.

No cans last week including double nelson had a limit. Yes it’s a 2 drink limit but it’s pretty easy to sneak around. However if you order a bigger format or higher abv bottle for onsite they make you show them at least 2 sometimes 3 people you’re splitting it with and they don’t pour their double ipa beers onsite given the abv.

Hey guys - thinking of hitting HF in October when I'll be visiting family in NH. Do their on-site selections differ than what's posted on their website? Seems like bottle selection is limited.

They do pull out some limited onsite options from time to time that do not end up on the website. October is a great time to go unless it is the heart of leaf peeping tourist season.

Often the selection differs quite a bit from the website, though sometimes not. My advice would be to visit Hill Farmstead because all of their beer is amazing and it’s the best taproom experience probably anywhere. If they have a rare bottle or draft available, that’s a nice bonus, but I certainly wouldn’t be dissuaded from going if the on-site list looks vanilla.

Don't keep up with HF that much because it's just too far away to worry about. I'm making my first trip up tho and am wondering how often they release stouts? Do they sell out relatively quickly when available?

They don’t have a ton of regular stouts in the rotation relative to the saisons/“farmhouse ales”, but Earl or Everett shows up every month or so, and there are maybe 8-10 BA stout bottle releases a year.

Of those, a couple have been onsite only, and they’ve also started doing draft-only stouts from time to time.

Short of another Double Barrel Damon retail release (will never happen), I wouldn’t worry about a Wednesday bottle selling out before Saturday at the earliest.

The spreadsheet on the first post of this thread can show you the previous release dates of every brew. You can see the timing and how long they lasted.

Does no announcement yet mean no new releases this week? I don’t recall how late the Instagrams have gone up in the recent past.

I'm patiently waiting to see if that oktoberfest they brewed will be canned or draft only...someone uploaded the screen shot of an instagram (?) story a while back, it said aiming for mid september release.

Sometimes the late announcement makes its presence in the form of a draft only release: experimental lager, stout...

    Of course, anything is possible
