Alpine Nelson. Here we go again?

    I unfortunately got skunked on cans but from what I've heard from friends that have had both cans and draught that the cans are better.

    I'm sorry to hear that you weren't able to get cans. I grabbed two four packs and wish I had bought more.
    I had a pour of draft at the tasting room and one at the pub on the day of the can release and felt that draft tasted the same as the cans.

    The beer has really evolved in both cans and the growlers I've had. As far as the Nelson goes, go to alpine tap room to get it, not in stores or at green Flash

    The Nelson at the tasting room on Sunday had Green Flash written all over it.

    It's been so long since I can remember what OG Nelson tastes like I'll I can say is when I got it during the first weekend of the keane either it was a really fresh keg of Nelson or they alternated and Pat just brewed a small batch.

    So my question is did Green Flash brew the keane his year? When you go to Alpine they are clearly still brewing. I know he's "gone" but from what I understood he still brews for them once in awhile

    I read that Keene was brewed at Alpine. I don't think they've brewed any of the distributed ones though (like Nelson). If they did brew a batch of Nelson that's only available on draft there, I would drive out there asap.

    Keene was brewed in Alpine. Says as much on the can.

    I would be surprised if he still brewed since they had a pretty big falling out. His son still works at Alpine though.

    Pat is no longer involved in GF/Alpine in any way shape or form. The beer was brewed by his son Shawn who's been head brewer at Alpine for several years even while his father still ran ABC. They do brew these special small batch releases like KI at the OG brewery on the hill.

    You are correct, Shawn brewed this batch of KI at the OG brewery. To date all Nelson has been brewed down the hill at Green Flush. We're all hoping that they will do an OG Nelson special release, that would create lines that would make Henry @Monkish jealous and yes I would be 1st in line.

    Green Flash Brewery Mira Mesa has Keene Idea on tap. It’s great. No growler fill. Was there last weekend. High Kicks is pretty good.

    Right now Shawn is going on a tour around California and eventually other states doing a “Nelson or Nothing” tour. FYI - it doesn’t make the beer taste better.

    Making a new OG batch of Nelson would result in a bunch of people whining that it’s not the same even if it were actually the same.
