They are, but you left out where the plastic cups were kept... oh wait... sorry, you told us! All kidding aside, yes, breweries are a great place to strike up conversations with new people and talk about something we all have in common other than the weather.

Ha, probably. I feel no need to defend myself in this case and after further reflection on the matter would probably feel comfortable doing it again as I dont believe my child was in any danger one way or the other. For those who feel the need to pass judgement, that's your call. I'll drop out of the conversation from here but for anyone else who would like to use the thread to post positive experiences about how the, generally, positive beer culture has shifted their perspective on things I'd be happy to read them (lengthy or not).

    Cheers.

This thread definitely took an interesting turn. I get the point of the story, even though it was longwinded. It's nice to share beer, even if it comes from a presumptively snobby place. Most of us here have had hoarding phases, and moving on from it is a great and freeing feeling.

I can even picture the whole leave the sleeping baby in the car setup. I've been to breweries where the parking lot is extremely close to the patio. I'm sure the baby was never in harm's way, even when the visitors from the next table struck up a conversation with you and your wife. Whether or not you KNEW the baby was safe the entire time, it's just a bad look for both of you if someone else notices, in my opinion. Why risk it when the social stigma is so great?

As a confirmed child disliker, and with all joking and bullshitting aside, given certain parameters, I have no issue with OP leaving his kid asleep in the car, while Mom and Dad have a couple pints.

I'm not a parent, but, one of the things I've learned from friends that are, is this: once the little boogers are asleep, woe befall anyone who wakes them.

If OP is accurate in his reporting, and the parents were just a couple steps away, and heat/cold/hydration/wutevz weren't issues, then, my only comment to the Parents of The Year out there is this:

    Lighten up, Francis.

There's a big difference between leaving your kid in the car, windows up, in Arizona vs windows down, in the shade, in STL.

I wasn't there, so I don't know. But if they can see the kid from the patio, I won't fault them for that.

I don't know one parent who would opt to leave their child alone in a car to go drink? Tells me the parents are not very mature and need to learn their priorities. They could have brought their daughter over with them no? Not to mention everyone does not ask about them driving home after drinking? Both parents were consuming alcohol (Dad was drinking BA beer and Mom IPA's) then drove their child home and also put other motorist at risk? I guess people today find no issue with this, its sort of shocking to me.

Here is how a regular parent does this. One parent ops not to drink and says I will take home a few beers and enjoy later. The other parent sits and has a few while the sober one sits with the child. Then everyone has a nice day and no one says anything about it. Again comes down to maturity and restraint.

    Cheers

Drunk driving is perfectly safe, it's drunk crashing or drunk running people over that's the problem.

So you and your wife left the kid in the car while you guys hit the bar and she drank a 'few' NEIPAs and you had a 750mL bottle of a 13% beer? WTF

Your wish is my command, I’m sure we all can find a different forum for Advocating Good Parenting, and the responsibilities that come with having children.

In the meantime, the topic has long lost its initial purpose. Don’t drink and drive, don’t leave baby in the car while you’re about to enjoy a DIPA or a heavy Stout. We got it. Closed.
