I have had SN, Erdinger, Thomas Hooker, and Shiner so far this year. Did not hate any of them, but did not love any of them either. I have a few more let to try (Jack Abbey, Von Trap, Weihenstephaner, and Hofbrau), but if I had to choose one right now I would pick erdinger. That one was more drinkable then the rest.

    It’s also not an Oktoberfest.

    It’s a Hefeweizen.

Thanks for heads up. Very mild on the banana and clove then. Also very clear in color for an Hefeweizen.

Went many moons ago but it will never change.

Old school chill event, long lines for food esp. the potato pancakes- but worth it.

OK selection of German beers. Pricing is decent. Worth attending if you’ve never been. Oompah band plays a lot.

Just picked up and sampled Narragansett's Marzen fest beer. For the price, it is quite damn good. Maybe a little thin but I started with three giant gulps and it really hit the spot. As it warmed a bit maybe a bit of the copper/penny/metalic thing going on.

They seem to do pretty well with some of the german styles for such a low-cost macro brewer.

Reminder that Magouns taps their first ceremonial keg of festbier tonight @ 5, then German-themed menu on Wednesdays for the rest of the month. The festbiers usually last till early November, they stagger the keg releases and almost always have 6-7 types on tap at any given time.

Will probably head there myself for Sunday NFL and enjoy some great German taps. Hoping the liters aren't over $17 each though.....

Thanks for the reminder-I have to visit family in Canton on Sunday, so hopefully I can convince them of a location change. Prost!

Locally the Peoples Pint Octoberfest is excellent,
as is this years Life on Marzen from Berkshire Brewing.
BBC is more Marzen less fest, both are worth the effort.
    Cheers all

    Do they stagger the releases?

I hit them up the first weekend every year and everything is available. I think they just do a different brewery promotion every Wednesday.

Keep the recommendations coming- I am leaving the hinterland this weekend and heading to civilization and stores with better selections.

I haven’t seen anything about Nightshift’s or Lamplighter’s Oktoberfests on their websites.

    Anyone heard anything?

Finally Tried Fort Hill's marzen "Red Prince". Oddly their website says it's their flagship (?) Anywho I thought it's a bit too dark and sweet for what I want in a marzen. It's more akin to a dunkel. But if you want a solid dark amber lager that drinks a bit sweet and probably goes best with food it's a nice buy for the cheap price.

I've only had two New England Ofests so far- Two Roads and Jack's Abbey. Two Roads is usually a solid beer and it still is. But "solid" is as far as it goes for me. Copper Legend, on the other hand, rocks it. I blew through that six quickly. While obviously not a lighter festbier, it's one of the more drinkable American versions out there. I'll be going through a couple more of those sixers.

Oh wait, how could I forget, I picked up a six of Berkshire Brewing's Life on Marzen. First of all, I'm happy to see they're abandoning the bomber format of their beers. Good riddance to the bomber. For the beer, we all know their version has always been off the deep end on the "Americanized" version of their Ofest- almost like an imperial version. It still is and I've always liked it for that, just know what you're getting into. A rich, malty drink more suitable for a November evening than and early September one, but they hold up well, so stock up and drink into the winter!

I talked to the owner a few times & he likes to debut certain kegs at different times. Sure the Spaten, Paulaner, HB are always available, but W’stephaner , Ayinger, & the Weisn versions & other more obscure ones are more sporadically planned to rotate with some variety.

    Interesting.

I definitely have pictures of beers like Ayinger, and the full menu available.

In 2017 I have a picture of Andech's from the first weekend. In 2016 I have a picture of both Weihenstephan and HP the first weekend.

And then way back in 2015 either the first or second weekend (I think it was still the first weekend) that year I have a picture of both the Paulaner Marzen and the Ayinger, and also the menu. The menu has every beer listed on draft except the Andech's (I don't think they offered it back then).

I tried to post a picture of the menu from 2015 but it didn't work.

All that being said maybe he changed what he's done over the years and I haven't noticed? I do seem to recall Traunstein being offered later in September one year.
