That’s how I feel about Al’s, which didn’t do anything for me. To each their own I guess

I actually had this and the Chantilly yesterday. Not side by side, but any time I have two strawberry beers, cue up the Ice Cub because it was a good day.

Well I'm done with Phase 3. Long story short, chantilly is bland and underwhelming. Marbles and Shakey are way better.

Agree, their ice is on point, their beef/combo, decent. Would stop after the races at Maywood Park, those days are sadly over (horse racing money now spent on beer).

Not a big Al's guy either. I prefer Jay's or Scatchell's. Portillo's if you're going the chain route. Combos, dipped hot/sweet.

Loved Mr. Beef on Harlem until this year, they sold it and I can't recommend it at this point.

Had Al's once, the beef was OK, sandwich small and expensive. Johnnies beef is better, but is also a smaller sandwich since they were sold a long time ago. Jay's is nearby (Montrose and Ridgeland, there is another location at North & Damen), give them a try sometime, their combos are great.

Northwest Side Gems (nearby brewery pairings *** BYO Food allowed):
    Beef/Combos:
Jay's (Old Irving Brewing Company) or Bob-O's (Mikerphone ***).
Pizza: La Villa (Revolution Brewery - Kedzie***) or Dino's (Une Annee/Hubbard's Cave*** ^).
Burgers: Harlo Grill (More Brewing) & Kuma's Corner (Beer Temple***)
Polish: Jimmy's Red Hots (Goose Island Brewery - Fulton***).
Hot Dogs: Superdawg (Alarmist Brewing ***)
    Subs: Bob-o-rino's (Metropolitan Brewing***)
Gyros: Central Gyros (Beer Temple*** - Big Boy Gyros is a good nearby alternative)

^ New location will serve food so BYOF option will be ending

There is no such thing as a good gyro in the United States.

Beg to differ, try The Works in Glenview. Been making gyros since the 70s and have been voted and still the best around.

The spit on their site make it look like lamb gyros. That right there says gyro fail.

Meh...Portillo’s does most thing well, but nothing great. I usually get the garbage salad when I’m forced to go there

    Johnnie’s for life!
