We get it. You never tasted the good version.

You know, sometimes the perceived decrease in quality is due to an increase in accessibility. This ain't one of those times.

I’ve driven all the way out to those sticks before. The place was uncomfortably small, but had good food and good beer. But neither were worth the trek or the wait. That said, I’ve had both Nelsons and I do believe that the perceived drop in quality has more to do with who now makes it rather than an actual drop in quality. The only thing I can see maybe affecting the current batches is that they sit longer before being sold to the public. And I’m merely speculating at that.

Yeah, but no. Sure, taste is subjective, but your assessment is objectively (and blatantly) wrong. You probably ought to back off on this position, or your credibility will be further* called into question.

You can like the current version or not or not, but the beer does not taste in any way the same as it did back in the day.

Are the fried pickles still good? I’ll drive out to Alpine just for those frickles, man.

You must think pretty highly of yourself to think your opinion does or should have any effect on what I post on this site.

Haha. Even the fried pickles are different. Instead of being cut into “chips,” they are cut lengthwise into long strips. Definitely creates a double dipping problem.

Not really, but I assume that you post on here with the expectation (or intention) that people take what you say somewhat seriously. If on the other hand, your MO is to just rant and post crap that pretty much everyone (including yourself) knows is wrong, then that's fine too - I was just pointing out that it will likely lead to folks (myself included) to assume that everything you post is crap.

I keep it pretty much down the middle most times. But since I don’t really interact with anyone on this site in person, I don’t put too much value on how seriously people take it. As long as BA has no effect on how my real world turns, things will be alright.

You can believe that, but the principals involved already admitted long ago that they had lots of issues between the two companies' different brewing methods as well as scaling up.

These guys were at the Calf Summit Beer Fest on Saturday. Their tent was labeled Green Flash/Alpine. Yes, Nelson was on for pours. I was going to have a pour until I ran into the @SoCalBeerIdiot. He told me not to waste my time. So I didn’t.

Still tastes like Green Flash to me. Mouthfeel-wise, too.

I think everyone who actually drank the OG just ignores nonsense like this. What I find humorous is his response to you, " You must think pretty highly of yourself to think your opinion does or should have any effect on what I post on this site " What he really is saying is " I must think pretty high of myself to think all of your opinions have no effect on what I post on this site " I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt but I don't do trolling or narcissism well and he clearly has no idea what he's talking about. There's always the ignore button.

    Cheers,

I enjoyed OG Nelson many times from late-ish 2009-2012. There was a store near where I lived at the time (Pasadena) that would periodically get bombers; and I may have bought a few bombers from Whole Foods Arroyo when their beer selection was outrageous in the same time frame. The beer guy at WF Arroyo at the time was a very cool dude, I think he now works in sales for a larger brewery somewhere in Calif.
When we moved to Oceanside in Oct 2012, we went to the Alpine shortly thereafter and I bought a max limit of bottles and growler fills. That was the last time I tasted any of those beers in, what I recall to be, their original glory.
I've purchased a number of the GF iterations, including last months bottles and while serviceable, are merely middle of the road beers.
