Check Firestone for bottle date(lower left hand of label) and Stone for enjoy by dates (Around neck)on any of their hoppy beers.

My sister lives in Overland Park. Right on the KS/MO border - so each state has a little bit different distribution. I love Lukas liquors. I stock up on Bells and Founders whenever I drive up there. Occasionally I can get my sister to swing by when something special comes out...like BCBS hitting on Wed.

Yeah this one has been the highest priced special release. I hope it is the blend and not the new normal.

Im not terribly familiar with FW, but I will say Sucaba is amazing, and Parabola is overrated.

Stone on the other hand, I have lots of experience with. Some personal favorites are Double Bastard, Oaked Arrogant Bastard, regular IPA, and Sublimely Self Righteous. You pretty much cant go wrong with any of their hoppy beers, although I am not a fan of their RIS (granted only had it once and it was a while ago, but I was not impressed).

Since you've never had either and are asking what to try, I'll suggest not jumping right into their 'big' beers. Both breweries make fantastic 'every-day' drinking beers as well that you should start with. I've never had a bad beer from either brewery. The Wookey-Jack from FW is the only black IPA I've ever loved. Stone IPAs are all amazing. Anything Bastard is good to great. Can't really go wrong with any, but if you do find the Parabola's, XVI's, Double's, Impy's etc my advice is to buy them and cellar them for a bit while trying their other regular releases first.

I think Arrogant Bastard and Stone IPA are the perfect beers to introduce someone to Stone, if they've never tried any of their stuff.. and then go from there. I haven't had enough Firestone..

I've enjoyed everything I've had from Firestone. Union Jack, Double Jack, Sucuba, Parabola, Anniv XIV/XV/XVI, Double DBA, Wookie Jack, and the Robust Porter.

Yeah, that would be great. Then we could delete the forums, since nobody likes actually discussing things with other people.

(Firestone: I've only had Union and Double Jack - both excellent. Stone: I haven't had one I didn't like, so buy based on whatever styles you're into.)

You're doing it wrong, the in thing to do is to say this years batch isn't as good as last years.

I recommend Firestone Walker Double Jack. Stone's Pale Ale is top notch. Also liked Stone 16th Anniversary and if you can still find it, Enjoy by 12.21.12.
These are just a few of the ones I have enjoyed but like others have already mentioned you really can't go wrong with anything from either brewery.
    Cheers!

Stone's Ruination IPA is probably my favorite beer for the price. As others have already stated, anything from either brewery is worth trying.

You don't like Sublimely Self Righteous? IMO it's the only awesome beer Stone does, but this one alone makes up for the other stuff. FW everything is killer good, you can't go wrong with anything they brew.

Be careful. I was passing through the KC area last weekend and stopped at a Hy-Vee to pick up some beers that aren't available to me. The Firestone Walker Walker's Reserve Porter had a bottled date of 11/04/11. So check the dates!
