How'd you like the Pirate Bomb? Saw it on the shelf and thought about it but passed.

Haven't cracked it yet, but I'll let you know when I do. As soon as the temp drops at night I get into stout season. It's like instinct.

It was 44 this morning in Boston. The temperature hasn't dropped at night yet in NH?

No it has, that’s why I started hoarding stouts.

I actually cracked it last night because I was intrigued. Just as good as I remember. Super smooth, really complex. Definitely grabbing another bottle.

Co-sign, but north. I asked the guy at my beer store about Oxbow stuff and his answer was essentially, "It's too expensive. People don't buy it."

    Sigh.

Oh, also, the two new Allagash beers: Haunted House and Truepenny. Anyone seen them around?

I love Oxbow and try to stock it as much as I can in our store, but its totally true. People do not buy it

And that is because they are unsophisticated simpletons. I said it, you didn’t. You’re off the hook.

My wife is extremely picky when it comes to enjoying sours/wilds. She loves Allagash wilds (who doesn't?), Treehouse 'tarts', some trillium wilds, and sours from Westbrook when we go to SC. I have been trying for a long time to search for something affordable and easy to find in a beer shop. (I can't just pick up 3-5 bottles of 'pick your own' allagash when she wants to have a few, unless I want to go broke fast). It's been a long time and I feel like we have been through SO MANY sours/goses throughout the past year. Prairie, nightshift, Destihl, Lone Pine, Stoneface...and dozens of others. Nothing sticks (and I'm usually stuck drinking the remaining cans).

Tonight I think things have finally changed. We found it. Was perusing Redstone earlier and again, picked up a six pack of a sour I figured I'd have to choke down unhappily after my wife said she didn't like it. But she cracked it, and fucking loved it...I took a sip and loved it. After drinking so many shit sours in cans the past year, this shit is wonderfully made and, although blasphemous, I think one could at least attempt to argue that it is CLOSE to allagash quality/taste. You can tell this isn't some shit kettle sour that I, unfortunately, know all too well at this point.

    Crooked Stave - Sour Rose.

The name doesn't do it any favors, def not a gimmicky rose beer. That's prob why I have avoided it this long. But it's a fantastic beer.

Anyway, I am making this post for two reasons, because I'm pumped I finally don't have to drive 90 miles or make a trade every time my wife wants to drink...and also to ask for more recommendations on what she might also enjoy...I think she definitely leans more towards 'wild' as opposed to the 'kettle sour'...and she needs to have some fruit adjunct component....if there are any easy to find sours that you think are great value, let me know!!!

Has she tried fruited Lambics by Boon? They are cheaper than Allagash and Oxbox. I hear you on the cost-I Love Allagash Coolship beers, but they ain't cheap.

Nothing blasphemous about that. Crooked Stave does sours/wilds as well as anyone.

Picked up a bottle of Boulevard's 30th Anniversary Ale at CBC Westford. Interesting blend of beers. I've been a fan of their clean barrel-aged blends in the past, so looking forward to this one.

Also grabbed a can of Schilling's Konstantin (Austrian-style marzen).

Co-sign. The term “sour” has been co-opted (like “hoppy” has) to mean anything acidic, either kettle or wild or mixed. I tend to stay away from the former. Crooked Stave is an Og of the game though. They deserve your love.

I'm a real novice on sours/wilds, and this is a little off the path from the other options you mentioned, but I find Ommegang's Rosetta to be both interesting and super drinkable. Also only about $12 a four pack.
