Agreed! Plowed through my six pack at the pool on Monday. I need to hit up Cellar West for the Kneebone Pils this weekend.

Hope everyone had a good Thursday. Was a slow day today, not many emails. Got a new beer haul after work as usual.

Ascension Auspicious. Awesome saison. Great fluffy head retention/foamy lacing. Aromas and flavors of big juicy/tart/tangy red cherries, fruit skin/pits, lemon, lime, orange, peach, pear, melon, apricot, red/green apple, white grape/wine, peppercorn, clove, hay, straw, wood, herbal, floral, and grass; with moderate wheat, cracker, white bread dough, biscuit malts; light leathery/musty funk, and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate peppery yeast spiciness; herbal, floral, woody, grassy bitterness; and fruit/Brett tang/tartness on the finish. Medium-plus carbonation, medium body, and fairly crisp finishing. Balanced bready/grainy malts, sticky hops, and fruit acid/tang/tannins in the mouthfeel. Light-moderate increasing tart/bitter/spicy dryness; no pucker/astringency. Very smooth, pretty refreshing, minimal warming 8.5%. Awesome well rounded Brett/saison yeast complexity, solid juicy/jammy cherry presence; clean pale/wheat malt backbone, and balancing earthy hops. Minimal residual sweetness with crisp dryness. Spot on stuff as usual. 4.1

Another Double Two Hearted. Listening to Stick-Up by Bobby Hutcherson, original 1968 Blue Note pressing.

And my favorite part of a half day of work...I get to catch up on some reading. Finishing Clarice Lispector's The Chandelier and am going to start her next book published in 1949, called The Besieged City.

I love Red Letter Media, I would much rather watch their reviews on movies than the movies themselves

I think it's precisely where you should expect, given the nature of the beer. It's definitely sweet, and definitely a dessert stout overall, but I really like how it came out.

Agreed, I felt it was sweet as can be expected for the style but not cloyingly sweet like some of the pastry stouts tend to be. I friend disagreed with me and found it overly sweet, I ended up drinking my pint and most of hers because she just couldn't do it.

Another fantastic BA Stout by de Molen, brewed with orange zest. While the barrels are not specified, this has to be Scotch, rather than Bourbon barrel-aged, due to some quite noticeable peat coming through, although there is some vanilla as well. Glenmorangy barrels, perhaps, they would certainly fit this perfectly.

I actually like this quite a bit better than BCBS Midnight Orange, except for an inferior mouthfeel, due to being much less sweet and boozy and more on the roasted, smokey, bitter side. Absolutely loving this.

Last of the OBX, NC beer. Yours Truli brewed by Weeping Radish.. I will be returning to OBX at the end of the month but probably will not buy this beer again. Maybe it is the beer style I do not like.
