I am headed to this fine establishment tomorrow for the day. can someone please give me the run down of how this works? (i am used to other half releases)

are scratch offs and glassware/releases at the same area?

is there REALLY no line drinking/sharing? what is policy for sharing once inside?

Anything else I should know, logistically, as a first timer to maximize my enjoyment?

(side note- i am looking for a blanka glass to surprise gift my friend who is driving us, dont want to post in Q&A or glass groups because he will see it. can anyone help me out?)

Scratch offs and glassware will be located at the back bar. That's what the line will be for. If you want to order Crowlers / cans then you have to do that at the front bar.

I was around #80 in line and got by glasses/scratch off about 35 minutes after opening. When I got there I was down the sidewalk just about to the front of the building. Once people put their chairs away and the line consolidated just before opening I ended up being right at the steps going up to the deck.

As far as drinking/sharing in line I think it's like most places that legally it's got to be mentioned it's not allowed but there were quite a number of people who made trips back & forth from vehicles pouring beers in their tumbers/yeti's/etc.. Also, a lot of people did not stick by their chairs. There was a row of probably 8 chairs directly in front of me that I saw when I got there and the people who inhabited them didn't come back around until 11:30am. They said they were in the front of the line talking to people which I believe as I saw a few of them throughout the morning.

Mekong did a cool thing and opened up a little after 9am for people who needed the bathroom. They were driving beer yet. Bar didn't open until 11am but at least they let people come use the restroom well earlier. If you need to use the bathroom sooner and can't find someone inconspicuous to go there's a Taco Bell about a 5 minute walk down the street that opens at like 6am/7am.

Overall it was a really chill vibe. There were guys grilling bacon sandwiches, people walking around passing out doughnuts, etc. Very cool day for sure. I hope you enjoy yourself.

Any prediction for when the ANniversary will be next year? I turn the big 50 in August and want to plan a trip. This would be an awesome one.

Way to early to know but their anniversaries have always been mid/late September. Either Sept 14 - 20 or Sept 21 - 27 would be pretty safe bets at this point if they keep it the same time of the month.

Have the anniversary festivities subsided yet? Heading into RVA tomorrow afternoon and trying to decide between stopping at Answer or Veil. I will have family in tow and only looking for a quick can/crowler purchase, maybe a draft. Any suggestions?

You could easily do both. They are only 2 1/2 mils away from one another and a straight shot up/down Broad St. Since Wed is not a Joose day at the Answer and it's a day after the normal weekly release at Veil you should be able to get in & out of both fairly easy.

Answer has a few video games to keep the kids occupied for a little bit while you get your Crowlers / Cans. Looks like they still have some cans of beers released from last week and a good number of others available for Crowlers.

Veil has a lot of package product to go and don't expect any of the new stuff released today to sell out today as their weekly's releases last a good number of days now.

And if you get into town much before their 4pm openings and need some time to burn slip by Final Gravity. They open at 2pm and do Crowlers of just about anything they have and typically there's anywhere from 12 - 15 beers on at all times. Had their newest, Moon Cresta, last week and was fantastic.

Limits on today's release is 1 split 4-pack (2 cans of each)/pp. By all the confusion these are apparently the exact same beers with different labels. People on Q&A have noted the "Left Twix / Right Twix" play. If this is the same I'm preparing to be humored by the Untappd check-ins when people are saying one is better than the other.

My memory is a bit foggy here but does The Answer have more than the one tv? I recall one adjacent to the bathrooms but I am not sure if there are others.

Pretty sure there is another TV directly behind the TV next to the bathrooms facing the back bar. You can only see it if you are seated at the back bar looking back towards the entrance. No TV in the main / front of the restaurant seating unless the screens that display their taplist above the main bar can switch to TV.
