I guess Wisconsin ran out of mules.

Here's my takeaway from this article: New Glarus brews a Spotted Cow farmhouse ale. I had no idea.

"Let" and "successfully" are relative terms...

Anyone who's visited there - it is an awesome spot, but for those cows to get where they appeared to have got - well, it couldn't have been easy...

Really? It's only their flagship beer, available just about everywhere in Wisconsin.

And "Yes." to is just about as revealing as a congressional inquiry. Silly fact is that people are arguing over the I.Q. of a cow compared with a horse, maybe we should bring pigs into the debate too.

BA lists Spotted Cow as an American Cream Ale, which is what I've always thought it was. I guess the brewer and the good folks from the Badger State know better.

There is (was) a Thumbprint Series Spotted Cow Grand Cru, which is classified here as a Belgian saison. My ISO meter red-lined when I read the description:

Interesting, but not the same beer, and I'm still surprised you didn't know about the long-brewed Spotted Cow. Here's a good back story.

BTW -- don't give up hope on that Grand Cru, it looks like it hasn't been relegated to the "Beers we have known and loved" category at NG, and it appears to be the September 2019 special...

It's been years since I had a Spotted Cow to remember its taste, but for those who taste it regularly, does it taste more like a cream ale than a farmhouse ale? Or more correctly regardless of taste, since the brewery calls it a farmhouse ale shouldn't it be listed as a farmhouse ale here on BA?

I'm familiar with Spotted Cow; I just wasn't aware that it was a farmhouse ale. Now I'll have to revisit it. Road trip!

Zwanze Day in Elkader, IA. Prairie du Chien is not too far from there. Spotted Cow and fresh cheese curds are calling my name. :yum:

Woah...you are flying an Ohio State flag and are in Iowa. Don't you need a visa or something to step foot in Wisconsin?

Nothing beats fresh cheese curds, though. Wisconsin has been my second home for years due to work and I got my MS in engineering from UW, so I have almost been adopted.

I have consumed plenty of Spotted Cow over the years, and it has elements of a farmhouse ale, but kinda has a smoother feel than you would expect. I think, FWIW, it is probably closer to a farmhouse than a cream ale, but can certainly see where it draws some elements of both. And even though it might be the national beer of Wisconsin, I personally think it isn't as good as Moon Man or Two Women. It is a good every day drinker...dare I say a cash cow?

Nah, I just slip the border patrol agents a four-pack of Bodhi and a couple of King Sues and I'm good to go.

“Our brewery is up on a hill, so I don’t know how they got up here. It’s the craziest thing,”
Really? So WI cows can only go down hill? That must be why he's stuck on the nightshift:stuck_out_tongue:

I just picked up some Grand Cru at the Total Wine and More in Greenfield over the weekend. Suspecting that it might be the previous batch, I asked one of the staff. He looked it up on their system and said that they just got the shipment in. I don't know if they have any, but a closer-to-Illinois option would be the Woodman's in Kenosha. They always have a good selection of New Glarus.

As to Spotted Cow being a Farmhouse Ale, I'd have to dispute that. At least, taste-wise. To me, it's closer to a Mexican Lager, in taste. I've never picked up farmhouse notes in Spotted Cow.
