from what I heard, they are "kinda" the same. Sour black was just black metal with brett, and funk is sour black and regular black mixed.

Damn he finally sold that last case of OG Black Metal. I have been picking up a bottle or two from him randomly for the last few months.

Anyone know where there is still Budhhas Brew in Austin? Visiting from Detroit and would love to bring a bottle home.

East 1st Grocery had some yesterday afternoon. It's in a box on the floor and not on the shelf.

Sour Black Metal and Funk Metal are the same beer. We initially filled two oak barrels with Black Metal and inoculated the beer with wild yeast and bacteria. After months of aging, we released it in kegs and casks as "Sour Black Metal". We liked the results, so we decided to scale up the beer from just a two oak barrel experiment.

To date, we've filled about 50 oak barrels with Black Metal and inoculated them with wild yeast and bacteria. We decided to name the scaled up beer "Funk Metal", and had Josh Cockrell do the label art for it, which you've probably seen by now. The first 200 cases (2,400 bottles) of Funk Metal will hopefully leave our brewery next week for distribution in Texas.

In essence, "Sour Black Metal" was our working title for what is now, and will continue to be known as "Funk Metal". Both beers were brewed the same way. Black Metal wort was fermented in stainless steel tanks with French Saison yeast. After primary fermentation, the beer was racked to oak barrels and inoculated with wild yeast and souring bacteria. The beer was then aged for about six months prior to blending and re-fermentation in the keg, cask or bottle.

We plan to continue to make Funk Metal with the hope that it will eventually become a year-round beer.

    Cheers,

Can you guys make some awesome beer with a Dragon or Godzilla on it, possibly a sour instead of a saison made with green tea like Fantome - Magic Ghost? Thanks in advance.

Buddha's Brew is fantastic. I love kombucha and Buddha's Brew is one of the best, if not a little hard to find in Fort Worth.

I was tentative about how this one would turn out, despite the obvious sour connection, it does not disappoint and hopefully turns into further collaboration.

Can anyone think of other brewers who have this style?

No, but all I need right now is a bottle of the base beer from Buddha's Brew.

The blend is fantastic but I honestly thing the beer portion of the blend could be world class.

A friend of mine went to a bar in Birmingham, Alabama tonight that sold several JK brews...Weasel Rodeo...$36! It's a good beer, but give me a break. That's taking advantage of a naive market.
