What beers outshine their variants?

I too think the original outshines the variants. Will I buy a bottle of Vanilla if I see it? Yes, but is it 2-3x better than the regular one? No, it's really not. The mad dash for variants used to be at least partially because they were so tradeable... now I can still go into stores in DC and buy all of the 2018 variants at msrp; Northwoods also, hell I got a Regal Rye for $29.99 6 months ago (was marked down from $44.99 which is why they still had it). Even at $30, you could get 3b of the regular at Costco (right when it comes out, they're long gone now). I digress.

I wish they would reboot the BCBBW, the BCBWW is okay, but the barleywine was REALLY good especially with a little bit of age on it. I know Barleywines don't usually fly off the shelves for 'normal' stores but it's even harder to believe that a Wheatwine could actually fare better. I did not care for the coffee barleywine, didn't like it fresh and had not potential for aging.

 

Lol I suppose I could have worded my post better. I am aware of that, I was just trying to say that in general I prefer nitro beers on tap, and when it comes to bottle/can format I far prefer the regular Left Hand Milk Stout

LOL. Haha that's pretty funny actually, you can see why I thought you were saying "maybe they should do nitro for kegs" right?

And yes, I got you, I never really thought the LHMS nitro bottle was better, and some of the bottles (no pun intended) are kinda flat. Tasting I mean. Cheers!
