I've got a bunch of hats, and, some just fit better backwards (like the Hillsboro Hops one I'm wearing right now). Plus, out here where it rains a fair bit, the backwards brim helps keep water from going down the back of your collar.

Not intending offence to the OP, but my answer = this post.

To be fair, I did open it, but why do we feel a constant need to discover and revel in the annoying. Times are good.
    Beer is good.

I'd rather count the ways to enjoy it.

Gimmicks have always been present in the beer industry - the brewers are simply trying to set themselves apart from the competition. I recall at least a dozen years ago a brewery that brewed a pizza-flavored beer complete with fennel and oregano. Someone apparently recorded them laughing about all the "fools" who actually purchased their beer. As far as I know, the beer is no longer available. Pizza, anyone?

when people describe beers as "hoppy" or 'malty". They both make no sense at all. there are hundreds on different hops and many different malts that all taste, smell and effect beer different. Another description of beer that annoys me is when people say the colour is "yellow", so is the colour of pee.

Brewer's strive to create 'balanced' beers in most styles, so that eliminates most beers from being called malty or hoppy. However, there are certain styles that go against this balanced character. Stouts and porters are considered to be malty, but they have hops in them only up to the point of masking any sweetness that a stout or porter malt character might have if it were 'unbalanced' to the sweet side. IPAs are at the other end of the spectrum and are intentionally over-hopped because many consumers like 'hoppy' beers.

You can have a hoppy character in other styles such as pale ales, and frequently you see hoppy wheat ales.

All pale beers can be described as "yellow" but that's a wrong use of the word if you look at the color spectrum. The word 'pale' is a better descriptor because it is general in its definition and can be anything from light amber all the way up to yellow. I've never seen a beer that I'd call yellow, and anyone who uses that word is probably a newbie. The macro beers could be called pale yellow, but pale is a better word to use even for them.

You should still not describe beers using malty or hoppy, no matter what, nor the colour yellow ever.

Then what words would you use? I saw in another thread that you equate "hoppy" with bitterness, but that's not really accurate because so many contemporary hops are used for taste and aroma that are not bitter at all. Some IPAs are bitter, some are not, but all of them are hoppy.

Older varieties of hops are bitter, such as what you get in Molson, Bud, Miller, etc.and some of those same hops are used in craft beers as bittering hops to off-set any sweetness from the malt (most malts have some residual sweetness from complex sugars that yeast can't consume). Other hops are then used for flavor and aroma.

I can't think of a popular descriptor to describe the malt flavor of beers, so I'm curious, what word(s) do you use?

    Bullshit.

If the beer is yellow, I call it yellow.

If the beer is malty, I call it malty.

If the beer is hoppy, guess what? I call that fucker hoppy!

Not necessarily beer-specific, but in a similar vein - when someone says a beer is "stupid good". Bonus point for saying a beer is "drinking stupid good".

    You're not my dad!

When a review says something like "surprisingly good." Like, the reviewer thought the beer was going to be bad, ordered/bought it anyways, and then was surprised that she/he liked the beer.

It annoys me when people who don't live here (Boston) give advice about what to do here and they only get into town maybe a few times a year.
