Hop Butcher (2019)

I actually find this has a harsher alcohol flavor than GB, most likely because it isn’t rounded out with lactose. The aroma is top notch. Fruit flavor is huge, but it isn’t vibing with the west coast hoppy/piney flavor. I want this to have some lactose sweetness to balance it out so I should probably just stick to HBs neipas.

 

I live in downtown St Charles so the Beer Cellar opening in Geneva will be huge for me in terms of time saved as well as having a great spot to hang besides Riverlands. It’ll be interesting if they can get enough cases, kegs, and events to where it doesn’t feel like the little brother store

 

Wasn't a fan of my first GB can yesterday. It did pour dark, and while the ripe pineapple, rotting peach is nailed, it drinks fairly heavy and comes across muddy to me. Didn't have that bright hop saturation I was hoping for. I felt the same about the last Reply Hazy, a bit of a muddy hop mess.

I do agree that Skeleton Cruise is a pleasant treat though.

 

I had a draft pour yesterday that had a very normal pale orange/yellow color. I was really impressed with both the aroma and flavor. Crazy passionfruit with some citrus, mango, and pineapple. Reminded me a lot of a galaxy IPA I had from Other Half this summer.

 

I happened upon two 4 packs. Had one from each 4 pack back to back. One was great the other not so much. Definitely more of an orange/brown pour on the off can. Am issue with some of the cans perhaps?

*Edit* KCUnited nailed it. It's rotting peach, that's the flavor on the bad can. The other was fresh peach as that's what ran through my head when after my first sip.

 

Galaxy Bowl is alright, and nothing special this time around.

I followed it with a Boss Tweed, which is blowing the doors off of the GB can I just had. The GB can just had muted tropical fruit, and hop notes compared to what I remember, and nothing about it stood out to me.

To each their own though - if you're enjoying this batch, drink up!

Man, I’ve had one can so far and it was great. Definitely a nice color for a NEIPA, too - not brown at all

 

Nothing livens up the Hop Butcher thread like Galaxy Bowl season. It’s all happening!!

 

Just had one last night. Tasted perfect.

 

Not sure if there is a real issue or the power of suggestion, but my second can wasn't as good after reading this...

 

I drank a 4 pack when it was super fresh and loved it. We didn't know if this was a bad can/pack or not last night but it seemed like Untappd pics were brownish too.

 

2 for 2 with my GB cans, perfect color and tasting great.

I attribute the taste difference primarily to hop year variation. However, I’m interested in how the color is a few shades darker than last years considering I thought they’d use the exact same grain bill to mimic last year’s success.

 

I hate to interrupt all of this Galaxy Bowl talk, but I am really enjoying Goethe. Super drinkable...and would be an awesome warm weather beer.

 

I really liked Goethe too. Also enjoyed Heck Yessum. Wish they would do more low ABV hazy stuff that aren't a sweet bomb.

Back to Galaxy Bowl. You guys are slippin'. 48 hours after release and I was still able to find a 4 pack. Can't wait to let everyone know what color it is!

 

It’s fine, but you can buy 50 other kolsch’s off the shelf that are better and less expensive.
