Holy shit @jhavs ! What a great idea for a mystery beer.


Sour Magic Hat #9? Damn. I haven’t had a #9 in years. Got the style right, but didn’t get apricots at all. In retrospect I can taste them, but still taste apples more than anything. Counting this as a miss but not too far off.

 

Finally finished building a duck blind trimming limbs around my house and settling in for a beer and some football.



you were worried for nothing on this can Dan, it’s delicious!

 

There is something to be said about a padded room and a jacket that hugs you tightly. Not that I have first hand experience.

Mystery beer #2. This one from @Orca_Whale .


L - 1-finger dense yellowish head is slow to recede. Body is a translucent autumn-brown.

S - lime, lemongrass?, citrus. Weird! Can’t yet tell the style, but guessing sour ipa.

T - definitely sour. My strange palate has been activated. Lemon/lime, dirt, mushrooms, rye, anise? Low bitterness. Low sweetness. Low booziness.

F - medium body with lower carb.

O - there is some sourness to this, but I’m guessing it’s not a sour. My guess is one of those weird no-hops styles that are bittered with roots and leaves. I’ve never tasted anything like this.

 

An hour and a half and I'll be home ready to pop open my mystery 15% med bottle.

Work has beat the living shit out of me today.

Not a sour at all. I hope there is ground-up turtle in this...if not I have no idea what I was tasting. It still tastes sour to me, even after the reveal. Well played, Bill!

 

The state penitentiary kinda gives you the same “amenities “ but there is the chance of unexpected events.

Did I ever tell you the time when I was a state auditor and had to go into a maximum security prison do some bullshit work. Had a 24 year old female colleague that was part of the team. Pandemonium ensued real fast once we got past the second security gate.

 

I hope you find a bit of relief. Been in your spot but many moons ago.

 

Cracked the blind beer from @y2kawakami . Got some funk as soon as I opened the can. Had the wife smell and she said "whoa, that does not smell good". I agreed, but first sip was pretty damn tasty. I am guessing some sort of fruited sour/farmhouse, peach or apricot, maybe.

It's mildly tart and would be a good summer beer.

 

that sounds crazy dude. Hopefully I will make it to RVA in the next couple of years so you can regale next. My wife has been bugging me about going to DC...

Just cracked this 9% IPA courtesy of @Joplamp

My first from Commonwealth.

The nose suggests a lower ABV beer, as does the flavor. A lot of red grape, sweet and ripe mango, a touch grassy. A very clean and drinkable beer that sits light on the palate. There’s a bready sweetness that provides some heft, but the beer is never too sweet.

Let me know when so I can reserve a couple of barstools at Richmond’s finest. Not bragging (yes I am) but Richmond has a number of world class breweries.

I really got to send you some Richmond beer. And by the way, do not believe any stories you hear about me. The dudes were more drunk than me.
