Normal day. Today is the last day of the two day release. *Might* be a chance for crowlers of leftover draft variants (if any left over) but would not necessarily count on it for tomorrow. They''ll announce anything on social media.

Awesome. IIRC, there was a Maiden-esque Deth's Tar shirt last year.

I could come to terms with this as long as they used Supermassive Cafe. And I'd require a custom shirt along the lines of, "I got this Supermassive enema and all I got was this lousy shirt."

    That better?

I had Cafe, Deth’s Tar Plums, Deth’s Limited and VSO BA Lynott’s on tap. Unfortunately I missed out on DB Lynott’s and Supermassive. I guess I’ll be the (semi) detractor and say I don’t get the extra love this year for Cafe Deth. By no means is it bad, but I think it’s pretty consistent with prior years. But, considering it was one of the last beers I had and I’d already been to 2 other releases yesterday, maybe I’m not the best judge. I did buy a 4 pack of it as usual.

I thought Maple was the best, followed by VSO Lynott’s and Plums. I’m not crazy about fruited stouts sometimes but for my money, Revolution does them better than anyone else.

It will start to get out there mid to late next week, then continue into the following week.
Normal day tomorrow. There won’t be any Crowlers tomorrow because we’re exhausted and need to pre-fill before opening the doors since it’s a slow process. Look for those later next week once we regroup. Thanks for understanding.

Really great time yesterday as always! Thought this batch of one off drafts were some of the best yet. Supermassive and Deth's Tar Limited were my two favorites and hope Supermassive makes it into cans at some point. Mixing Supermassive and Maple was really nice. Had a can of Deth when I got home and agree that it's a step up from last year's batch.

I arrived at the taproom around 5pm yesterday; I'd say my maximum wait for a beer was about 30 seconds. Insanely well-run & comfortable event; the cash-only aspect definitely helped.

    Rankings:

1a) Double Barrel XO Lynott's 2017 Stout -- the most complex beer I had, but also insanely drinkable, especially considering the 17.1% a.b.v.
1b) Supermassive Cafe Deth -- the most coffee-forward beer I've ever had, and it's not remotely close. Weapons grade freshly roasted coffee bean notes all over the nose & flavor. Also: the 14.1% a.b.v. was not just minimal, but absent completely. DANGEROUS but so, so good if you are a coffee junkie.

    2) Deth's Tar Limited 2019 -- a hint sweeter than regular Deth's Tar, and less boozy (to my palate, anyway). A nice variation on the base beer.

    3) VSO Lynott's 2018 Stout -- a well made barrel aged stout, but didn't stand out too much compared to the three above.

    4) Olde Gravedigger -- I don't believe they used any scotch barrels making this, but it was a smoky peat bomb that was pretty one note. Interesting but didn't love it.

    5) Maple Deth -- a bit disappointed with this; there was muted, muddled maple notes that clashed a bit with the earthy base stout. Not awful, but it's the only one I didn't finish (I decided to have another Supermassive Cafe Deth instead!)

This all lead to me discovering it's only a 15 minute walk from the taproom to Beer Temple and having, among other things, a cask pour of Coffee Eugene to complete the most Revolution-heavy beer night of my life. No regrets!!

Will any 4 packs of the Deths be available at the brewpub on Monday or Tuesday? @Veliksta1

Yes, they will be there today. Soon they’ll even be available for delivery through Caviar. What a time to be alive.

No, that time will be when Rev has their own delivery app called "Deth's Door" and it delivers caviar.

Wow, so soon I can have Cavier deliver Honey Butter Chicken AND Deth's Tar to my door?

@HouseofWortship -- I will truly be at Deth's door if this comes to pass.

I know. To offset this we'll have to start having this stuff delivered to us at the gym...

@Veliksta1 Can you clear something up for me?

I know that two years ago, when SJ was a crazy big hit, that it was a blend of SJ AND VSOJ. Then, last year when it was just SJ, it was less of a hit. Makes sense, not picking on anyone here.

I was thinking this was also true for DT: two years ago I was thinking it was a blend of DT and VSOD, then last year just DT, whereas THIS year, DT is a blend of 12-48mo DT.

    Please and thank you.

Sorry this is so complicated, but here goes...

When it was mentioned that some "VSOJ" was blended into Straight Jacket that year, it was probably worded as such for simplicity. VSOJ, along with with Deth's Tar/Straight Jacket/VSOD/etc., are all complex blends that vary year-to-year and always have a wide range of different components (barrels) of varying spirit types (bourbon, rye, double oaked, etc), sweet vs dry versions of the brew, time in the barrel, etc. Those will never be the same each year because it's not possible. It wasn't really "VSOJ" that was blended into to Straight Jacket, it was a single component, a specific group of 2+ year old barrels of sweet Straight Jacket barrels that weren't needed for the final blend the year previous, and would taste too sweet on their own. VSOJ was a blend of at least 4-5 different versions of Straight Jacket, where as the component added to 2018 Straight Jacket was one of them. DT gets a similar treatment, including 2 years ago, where a wide variety of barrels are used, including a minority with a little more age on them. This year we went wild with Deth's Tar and used I think nearly 10 different brews from various vintages over the last 4 years giving it a lot of depth and layers. This is what size and scale of a barrel program is able to afford us, where we don't have to use every barrel each year. If we think we have the blend and quantity we need, we can carry over barrels and let them age another 6-36 months and determine their ultimate destination later.

Here's an old explanation from a little while back on this page with an additional take:

Please share this with those that help determine your salary, because I know that I am not alone when I say this:

Your Customer Service and presence on this site is what helps make me a loyal Rev fan, and actually makes me buy more Rev brews. I'll be honest, DT didn't blow me away last year, or two years ago, but two years ago it was better than last year (for my palate). Similar experience with SJ. Your posting is, however, always causing me to want to try more rev brews, including those that didn't absolutely suck me in.

    Thanks!

    agreed! Thank you!

also, this continues to make me very hopeful that we’ll be able to do a guided single barrel vs blend tasting some day. That would be amazing, and educational.
