The short lived Brut IPA was about as let down as I have been by them.

You’re right about being disappointed of course. I said ultimately. Ultimately (and hypothetically), it isn’t in your best interest to have a brewer you like put out six packs that won’t sell.

Jack, that seems to be exactly the problem ... its "a" customer that wants it as opposed to "many" customers ...

    I love Sierra Nevada.

    But please bring back Tumbler.

The second edition of Otra Vez is about the only SN beer that I really felt let down by. I enjoyed the first one quite a bit, and wish they'd go back to using that recipe again. Ok maybe Sierraveza didn't exactly tickle my fancy either. Not bad, but not good enough to make me ever want to purchase it again.

Aside from that I'd love to see more sampler packs with less IPAs in them, but I know IPAs are what sells these days so I don't hold out much hope for that happening. I'd jump on a 12 pack variety mix of Kellerweis, Otra Vez (the original recipe), Coffee Stout and maybe something not as common such as Southern Gothic. I think that would be an interesting mix in a wide variety of styles, beers that maybe a lot of people haven't tried yet.

The only time I can say they did disappoint me is when they went away from putting Tumbler in 6 packs.

Narwhal isnt a year-round release and their Porter isn't much to speak of. Their seasonal mixed packs much like BBC are on the decline in terms of quality imo. Consistent as they may be, at times when I'm out in the weeds, they are a craft beer oasis when I cant get anything else. I will always love them for that.

When they replaced an incredible Spring seasonal Golden Bock (Glissade) with with some forgettable IPA. Also, when they replaced their Fall seasonal Anniversary IPA with a boring brown ale (Tumbler).

    Otherwise - never.

    Loved the original otra vez,

The new one was one and done.

The original large bottle Brux was horrible, I love Brett but this beer was one of the worst I ever had. No carbonation, green apples , watery thin and almost tasteless but for the green apple.

Did not like Hazy thing or tropical Helles

Almost all their beers are solid to very good.

Bigfoot is awesome, still have a BA Bottle i need to open. Might be past it’s prime.

I really liked the ballet scotch ale as well, a surprise to me.

    Enjoy

If by "a" you mean just one customer I have to very strongly disagree with you here. There have been many (and I do mean many) posts from BAs expressing thoughts of: I wish they did not discontinue beer brand x or why don't they produce beer brand y as a standalone 6-pack.

Having stated that I have an certain level of understanding why the may choose to discontinue and/or not brew a certain style of a beer as a standalone but this is not due to "a" customer.

And while we are on this topic the 'issue' for Sierra Nevada is that as they make business decisions to either 'chase' new customers (or whatever) they run the risk of pissing off long term customers (i.e., people who have been purchasing their beers for decades). They will have difficulties producing increased beer sales if their regulars (i.e., not just "a" customer) decide to purchase less of their beers.

    Cheers!

I wish SN did more Lagers and I miss Glissade. I'm not sure what direction they are going in now and it seems a little odd but glad that I can still find their core beers reasonably fresh and at a good price.

And for those who mentioned revisiting Torpedo I can tell you that it's a good idea to do so. Torpedo was never one of my favorites but I revisited it recently thanks to the new Sampler lineup and I found that I enjoyed it and even more than Hop Bullet.

I saw it for $14.99 and passed at that price because I had a bomber of this beer years ago and liked it but didn't love it. If I see a single somewhere I will probably grab it but outside of that looks like another pass this year.

I don't mean literally one single person - more figuratively that the number of people who want these beers is far fewer than the number of people who want the IPAs/sierraveza they are featuring these days. I know there are many posts here on BA (myself included) calling for some of these great beers from SN past, but I think that one, its a handful of dedicated posters saying the same thing over and over again, and two, the BA forums are not representative of the craft beer market as a whole. So even if there are a lot of posts asking for kolsch, glissade, tumbler, Vienna, etc they are still in the vast minority in wanting that beer.

And look, I hear what you're saying in your overall point. I usually buy one or two of their mixed fall packs and one or two of the winter packs ... but with them not releasing them this year, I haven't bought any SN since the Oktoberfest and I don't know when I'll buy anything again. I just suspect that people like me are not making a big dent in their numbers.

I think SN has done a fantastic job and I really like how they are responsive to customers when they are asked questions, etc. My only let down is that they seem to have sidelined a few beers more and I wish they did not. As a whole though, I think they make great beer and are great people and I always enjoy an ice cold pale ale or Celebration and those elusive coffee beers that pop once a year lol..... (That could come in 6 packs) :stuck_out_tongue:
    Cheers !

I'm in the group of old time fans that is disappointed by the latest need to chase the current trendy style, or to put out yet another IPA. I miss Stout, Porter, Kellerwiess. Would like to see Tumbler and Kolsch (original recipe, not the last one) return. I think Otra Vez, Sidecar and tropical Torpedo are bad business decisions and are blocking better year round beers. Usually the seasonal packs were interesting, but not always. I'd like to see a variety pack with PA, Torpedo, Kellerwiess, Stout and 2 others. Also SN has been difficult to find in my neighborhood, where other bigger craft has taking it's place on the shelves. Of the newer beers I like Sierraveza and I usually like the Oktoberfest releases. Celebration is probably my favorite IPA. I can't say I know what's best for SN but this long time fan has purchased a lot less SN over the last couple of years.

Lost sales is never a good thing for any business.
If their sales volume is deceasing as measured by volume (or not increasing), then yes people like you are indeed "making a dent".

Sierra Nevada as a business should want their customers who have been purchasing their beers in the past (decades for me) to continue purchasing their beers and have newer customers purchase their beers. This is a 'win-win' situation for their business. In contrast a 'lose-win' is a sub-optimum situation for their business prospects going forward.

    Cheers!

Honestly I rarely buy SN beers, with no particular reason, most I’ve tried I do like, but there’s better options here imo. The one and only must buy would be Celebration. I haven’t seen their Wet Hop beers in forever, no idea in the world if they even do them anymore, but they would be a buy.

Forgot the Fest beers, I buy, but only that one 6 so far, wasn’t my style.
