I grew up in Lake Park, Palm Beach Gardens, and Jupiter. Moved away in 2006 and last visited in 2010, when I was still a craft beer neophyte (and there was basically no local scene). Now I'm headed back for a week, spending half my time in Sunrise and the other half in Jupiter.

Beyond Funky Buddha (are they still good post-buyout?) and Civil Society (basically the only ones on my radar aside from J. Wakefield), what else is worth hitting up from Tequesta on down to Miami?

Happy to hear about breweries, bars, bottle shops, and any events happening Oct. 6-12. Thanks in advance!

Also open to reccs for places that do a good job pairing good beer with interesting food, beyond the usual burger & pizza stuff.

    ^some info in this thread^

    From North to South:

Jupiter: Civil Society, Das Biergarten (food/beer)
WPB: Civil Society newer location (lots of food nearby); Dixie Bar and Grill (food/beer)
    Pompano: Odd Breed, Bangin Banjo
Oakland Park: Funky Buddha (beer's still solid; food is excellent)
Ft. Lauderdale: Flagler Village/Brass Tap (food/beer), Invasive Species; also very close by are Laser Wolf (beer bar), Orchestrated Minds and Gulfstream...lots of food choices around
Dania Beach: 3 Sons (food and beer)
Miami/Wynwood: J Wakefield and Boxelder (beer bar)
Miami/Little Havana: Union Beer Store (beer bar; usually has food)
Miami/Coral Way: Mendez Fuel (beer and crowlers to go only; food too...it's a gas station)
Doral Area: MIA, Tripping Animals (both with food too); also nearby, The Tank and Beat Culture

There are many other local places with good food, some with decent beers on tap and of course, plenty of other breweries plus the usual suspects, Yard House, World of Beer, other Brass Tap locations, etc

    Check Untappd, instagram/facebook too

From a FTL local: 3 Sons >> Invasive >> Gulfstream >> Tarpon River

If you are hitting Funky check out Fat Tap Bar and Grill for great tap list and good food. Invasive is not far from there either.

Orchestrated Minds is new and up and coming. They open Thurs-Sun only.

While I'm at it (since the hobbies often overlap), anyone have any coffee roastery recommendations?

Personally I like Grind Coffee Project in Ft Lauderdale (across the street from Tarpon River brewing) but they don't roast their own

Calusa does roast their own, also in Ft Lauderdale.

Wells, Argyle, Switchbox, Panther, Crux, Blooming Bean are all coffee roasters that have done "collabs" with SoFla breweries

Tripping Animals has become my go to in Doral. Invasive over 3 Sons in the Ft Lauderdale area for me as well. Some folks on here are a bit down on Civil Society more recently. Could be a dip in product quality, could be that they just aren't the new flavor of the month. Haven't been up to Jupiter in awhile or checked out the WPB spot.

Civil is coming back around and definitely worth a visit as is tequesta brewing company. Crux coffee is right next to civil and oceana coffee is near tequesta brewing.

    Hi,
I am a fan of Invasive Species, LauderAle, & civil Society myself. Tripping Animals in Dade is pretty good as well J.Wakefield.

There are multiple coffee places in the Flagler Village area ( where Invasive Species & Flagler Brass Tap are located) that are pretty good. Wells being my personal favorite.

Are there any breweries with ocean views/patios by the beach/nice views in Fort Lauderdale or Miami? Looks like Hollywood Brewing may apply, any others?

Breweries in S FL tend to be fairly industrial and mostly indoors...I'd stay away from Hollywood Brewing terrible beer and even worse service. Lauderdale near the FLL airport has a pretty beer garden if not much of a view.

There is not much of a craft scene on the beach. However, downtown there are great options like Invasive Species, Gulf Stream, Tarpon River, and Orchestrated Minds. 3 Sons is a few min south of the airport.

To follow up, I didn't get to hit as many breweries as I would have liked on this trip, but I did get to Funky Buddha (fine, but too many adjunct-heavy beers—like a lesser Bruery), Khoffner (not great, but had a great convo with the bartender), and Civil Society (easily the best of the trip, really solid all around). Tried cans from Wynwood (great), MIA (good), Copperpoint (bad), and Due South (bad).

Orchestrated Minds is an awesome new spot. Beer is fantastic and the owners tend the bar and are awesome. Definitely worth a stop if you’re in the area.
