Hello All. Long time lurker, first time poster here.

So every November I pick up a six pack of Victory's yummy seasonal release Yakima Glory. I did so last year, and remember the "Enjoy By" date being about a year after the purchase date.

So I look for it this month, expecting a new 2012 batch and find it in three different stores. In all three stores, the "Enjoy By" date was marked November 30 , 2012. One of the stores, Rick's in Alexandria VA, said they were sending their shipment back. The other two stores that had it appeared to be selling it at regular price.

Has anybody else encountered this issue? Is Victory shipping "leftover" 2011 Yakima Glory and selling it as 2012 Yakima Glory? Is it fresh beer with the wrong "Enjoy By" date stamped on it?

    Thanks for any insight!

Welcome. I always pick up a 6-pack each year as well. This year, I had someone pick up a 6-pack directly from Victory the week is was released. The bottles were stamped 2013. I can't imagine Victory would send out old beer, I would assume it was a mistake. Bad mistake to make though, if that is indeed the case.

Victory didn't deliver that beer to the retailers, ones of their Virginia Distributors did.

It's not unheard of for wrong dates to occasionally be stamped on beer bottles - did the "Enjoy By" dates stamped on the top of the cases agree with the labels? (Since one retailer said he was returning the stock, I assume he did that and it was last year's release).

Since it seems unlikely both would be wrong - write Victory and tell them your area retailers are getting old stock from their local Victory wholesale distributor. Victory's website also lists their sales force by region - looks like for the Mid-Atlantic/Virginia that's Pete Scheider - an email link and his phone number is on Victory's Sales Rep Page.

    Greetings.

Want to reinforce what Jesskidden said above. The most likely situation is that the VA distributor sat on some cases from last year, possibly by accident, possibly not, and then delivered them this year, especially if the one retailer is sending his back. Another possibility, but less likely, is that one or more of the retailers didn't sell all of his stock from last year and kept them in storage from last year and has now put them out for sale. Definitely follow up with the Victory sales rep(s) for your area. They will want to know.

It's unfortunate that the OP got old beer but the bottom line is that's it's still quite tasty. I cellared a couple of bottles from last year and they really mellowed out.
