Another new beer today. I didn't get the memo on the Stout Day but had them yesterday so not feeling left out as I have beaucoup IPA's I need to work on as I'm off again next week on another "Great Adventure" vacation with the wife. I've seen this one on the BA for quite some time and finally scored some at the Total Wine. As a big fan of "A Little Sumpin' Sumpin'" I'm ready to try this pale ale from Lagunita's.
And a shout out to Larry V's birthday celebration. Made 66 last Sunday. Salute~ amigo.
    Now, more reviews. Gettin' LARRRGE!!

Hope everyone had a good Thursday. Got the presentations mostly finished up this morning as I wanted to do. Nice sized beer haul after work as expected. IBS was extra annoying for some reason today. I did drink 3 16 ounce cups of black coffee though. Pretty much the norm now.

Upland Modern Tart. Awesome fruit kettle sour. Solid fluffy head retention, minimal spotty lacing. Aromas and flavors of big sour/tart/tangy apricots, fuzz/skin/pits, lemon, lime, orange, red grapefruit, peach, pear, pineapple, passion fruit, papaya, mango, honeydew melon, guava, blueberry, gooseberry, red/green apple, white grape/wine, citrus peel/rind, wood, peppercorn, pine, hay, straw, herbal, floral, and grass; with moderate wheat, cracker, white bread dough, lightly toasted biscuit malts; lacto funk, and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate fruity/lactic tart/sourness, fruit tang; and pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, woody, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Medium-plus carbonation, light-medium body, and fairly crisp finishing. Balanced bready/grainy malts, lactic acid, fruit tang, and sticky/resinous/rindy hops in the mouthfeel. Moderate increasing bitter/sour/tart/tangy dryness; no pucker/astringency. Very smooth, pretty refreshing, not overly lactic, zero warming 5.6%. Awesome Citra/Mosaic profile. Very juicy/vibrant hops/fruit, some dank/earthy notes, and balanced Lacto complexity; with a nice pale/wheat malt backbone against acidity. Minimal residual sweetness with crisp dryness. Very impressive. Glad I got the 6 pack as expected. 4.1

Sitting @ Little Thistle Brewery in Rochester, with the owner/brewmaster next to me, just chatting it up. This is why local breweries are the best.

PS, my German Shepherd's memorial beer comes out next week, we're trying to decide on a name.

It is stout day after all. Rochester Mills Sweet As Pie Milkshake Stout. This was awesome. Great fluffy head retention/spotty soapy lacing. Aromas and flavors of big milk chocolate, cocoa, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, cream, roasted nuts, toasted biscuit, and brown bread/crust; with lighter notes of coffee, molasses, dark fruit, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast earthiness. Mild herbal, grassy, peppery, roasted bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-plus body; very creamy, silky, bready malts; light sticky hops and chalky roast in the mouthfeel. Lightly increasing lingering bitter dryness, no cloying/astringency. Super smooth/soft, zero warming 5.2%. Awesomely rich and well rounded malts, cocoa, lactose, and brown sugar complexity; with mild earthy hops and restrained fruity yeast. Light residual sweetness with lingering dryness. One of the better ones in the series I've had, out of many. 4.1

I know I'm doing this wrong as it is a Thursday. Really liking this even though I typically don't go for high octane stouts. This was aged for about 21 months so I don't know how it compares to a fresh bottle.

Happy Pre Fobab Eve... so wasn't going to start with this but the hubby found this in cellar and opened it up, of course it was chilled, not my cup of tea...

Since I'm volunteering at FoBab all day Saturday and attending evening session, I'm laying low tomorrow and indulging today...

BTW- Anyone going to FoBab Saturday?

    Cheers!

#2, this beer available in a 12 oz format ..... I’m verklempt. Magnificent, IMHO. I used to love the bomber/750ML format, but I like these big beers in the 12 oz format significantly better - don’t need any stoppers!
