    YESSSSS

couldn’t agree more. Never gonna get a like from me when I have no idea what I’m looking at! Please, brewery name and beer? There really are quite a few available right now, I’m not familiar with every one off from your local Indiana nano.

I think you should be satisfied with a picture and an accompanying acronym. Asking a guy to type out the whole name of a beer is a little much, don’t you think?

Well, I was just yanking his chain a bit. A lot of folks dislike the word moist, so I used it in a sentence with a word he disliked. Just funnin'.

I'm sure this annoyance has been brought up a time or two in this thread, but in case it hasn't: the baby glasses of RIS or high-abv stouts......when I can just jump right to the back of the line for a second baby glass.

Similar vein: I can buy two 32 oz crowlers of the same beer, but you won't fill my 64 oz growler?

I guess it's so they can increase the $/oz price, but they say it's because of the high abv, which is a lie

You try writing 4 new beer descriptions every week and not repeat the same language! I deal with the same thing writing wine labels. "This wine features......."

    Things that annoy...

Offering $12 taster flights of 5 core beers when ever someone asks to try a seasonal or specialty beer.

Breweries making pastry stouts that sound like that homebrewer from the Buffalo Wild Wings commercial.

I'm convinced that the primary purpose behind most of the use of acronyms* on these forums is not to save typing time but rather to indicate insider status. They're the secret handshakes or the passwords to get into the speakeasy. "I speak the lingo; I know all the nicknames because I'm just that cool. If you don't I guess you're just not as plugged in and with it as I am, and you don't deserve to know what I'm talking about." As I've written many times, there's no way to understand the craft beer scene of the late '10s without recognizing that there's a ton of self-aggrandizing social posturing.

    * beyond the near-universally understood general ones like "IPA" and the like

The military lives on Acronyms, it’s a lingo all by itself and unless your in you wouldn’t have a clue what they’re talking about, it can be akin to Greek. But its for brevity purposes and not to be cool, it says a lot with out saying a lot, sometimes brevity is a real plus depending on your job. On this site it saves me some typing..

    FTFY:wink:

Lots of industries have their own acronym vocabulary, but, on a site like this, which is dominated by consumers, yeah, the acronyms can be quite elitist and snobby.

You were probably on the site when they announced a "No Acronyms in Thread Titles" policy. Just the title, mind you, type the name out once, then acronym away, and the resulting meltdowns that ensued. You woulda thought folks were saying bad things about their latest hauls.

I get and I don’t get the acronym thing. I’d prefer to give people the benefit of the doubt and just assume they’re much deeper into the beer game than me.

I mean does any of us not use / not understand KBS or BCBS? Do we agree those are used for efficiency vs any sort of elitism? Isn’t it preferable to use those than typing out Bourbon County Brand Stout every time? So where is the line drawn between KBS and HBBPTGGPRT b3?

With more and more direct to consumer happening (ie with chances that sought after beers are theoretically distributed to me dropping; just look at the top beers on this site today vs a few years ago) and the fact that I rarely trade, then if I see an acronym used I don’t understand, I shrug cos it’s almost certainly a beer I’ll never try.

One brewery where I am an “elite” is Other Half. It’s my local brewery (walking distance from my apt) so I spend way too much time in the dedicated thread on here. We use acronyms all the time. Trust me it has nothing to do with being elite and everything to do with their stupid fucking naming convention. Double Dry Hopped Double Citra Daydream gives me carpal tunnel.

First off I want to say that I'm a dog lover and grew up with dogs. BUT what annoys me is when did breweries become synonymous with dogs? Was at a brewery a few weeks ago and there were two dogs that barked at each other for a good 15 minutes while their owners did nothing. Not only did it annoy me, but I noticed others were annoyed as well. I don't want to go to a brewery to be annoyed by dogs barking at each other. I just want to have a few beers and hang out with my friends. Maybe it's just me.
