I'm cautiously optimistic about Quiet Space. Aside from the "will it be too goddamned sweet" bias it will have to overcome, I'm also skeptical that a beer can be brewed "for aging" and still be great right out of the gate.

Honest question- how many of you have had an un-aged version of a beer and loved it, then loved the aged version as well? In my experience the best aged beers were brewed specifically for barrel aging. Their un-aged version is rarely made available for public consumption (maybe a taproom on-tap only release?), or the aged beer is explicitly a modified version of one of their regular rotation beers.

Two local examples come to mind. I can barely remember it- according to Untappd it was 2016- that I had un-aged BQE from Finback and really enjoyed it. The barrel aged version was significantly better though. Then there's Heavy Boots of Lead from SingleCut. I loved the un-aged version (at least the early releases...have a can at home from the last release I've yet to crack open). The barrel-aged version was a mess.

I'll just say that, across the board, I think OH's barrel-aged beers have been unimpressive. I find them to be exactly the sum of their parts: a mess of adjuncts with oak added into the mix.

I thought Snowbirds and BA Snowbirds were both fantastic, but this is probably the exception rather than the rule.

I'm with you in having high hopes for Quiet Space. I typically avoid OH stouts due to price and they're so heavy on the adjuncts, but a straight up 'nilla stout sounds very nice.

Kane Brunches, both Sunday and Mexican are way better in their non BA iterations IMO. This beer sounds like it has potential, so I guess we will see

Only non-adjunct stout that comes to mind was In Absentia Luci. With the Red Wine barrel-aged version being even better. Since then it has been all adjuncts unless I’m missing one. I guess they are over their “nut” phase. When they nutted every stout they put out.

so many joke options to build onto this post - such as Feaor nutting over BA Snowbirds

My opinion that OH can't make a good stout may be outdated but I'll take that opinion to my grave (which will be on a plot a little further up the hill with the money I'm saving).

I was on board with this sentiment until Velvet Magnum II dropped last year. That was the first OH stout that I was really like damn, okay I this is different but really good. I like IAL Red Wine and a few other variants but those ones were excellent besides Red Wine and I always like some of the Short Dark series. But after VM2 I was willing to give more of their stouts a chance. Its been hit or miss but they are much better than they used to be. the VIP Pastrytown stout was great, the BA Vanilla one that is.

    Real weird post by them.

I'm confused about the bottle thing too.

Right, why post a pic of the bottle? And was the Island Cake at pastrytown barrel aged or is this the BA version? What does a “special tasting” mean? So many questions.

So...anybody try Quiet Space? Are there bottle pours at the taproom by chance or must I we pay full price to try this ride?

I’ve just been informed that I’m in charge of waiting for the delivery of our couch today. Hopefully it happens early, but if not, I’ll brew up a glass of warm milk and sugar in honor of you all.

The theory that @NewmansOwn is a semi-sentient Instagram integration bot is seeming less and less far fetched.

@crowlcrowlcrowl is presumably washing hair / getting a Brazilian

@afroskully has just found out wife and kids taking a day trip and so is smoking weed at home all day on an irreplaceable, well worn sofa

what next @frozyn has to go to work?

On my end my wife called a major audible and it seems we’re about to go on a family trip to the natural history museum. But if people still around I should be able to swing by around 2ish all being well

I’ll likely be there until past 2, my cousins are going to Grimm and then meeting me at OH later. Should be getting there around 12/1230 for whoever is around early
